Here’s the perfect complement to Tim Holtz’s Glass Media Mat! This essential tool set by Tonic Studios includes one Media Edge and one Media Scraper that will make your crafting so much easier and productive. The clear polycarbonate Media Edge guide measures 14” in length and has no markings on it, so it’s not a ruler but instead is used for a guide for many uses while you’re creating. The Media Scraper is made of a durable polymer which makes it a tool that will give you a lifetime of uses; it also features a Kushgrip ergonomic handle for comfort.

Media Scraper – The Tim Holtz and Tonic Media Scraper is made of durable polymer glass, is durable so it won’t break down over time and doesn’t wear away. Use the scraper on the non-stick craft mat to remove glue, dry paint and so much more. You will be amazed by how easy your mixed media comes right off the craft mat and that you won’t have to run to the sink to clean your work area each time that you run out of room, you can just keep creating. We’re certain that you will use this convenient tool repeatedly!

Media Edge – This edge is not used for measuring, but instead features a lip on the end to allow the edge to hang off the side of the Glass Media Mat. It gives you a straight line for drawing, stamping and aligning your photos. One side of the Media Edge features a tapered edge that makes it simple to create straight lines using your pens and markers. The other side has a metal rod embedded into the edge that’s used for cutting; you can use your craft knife to achieve a straight line against the metal edge. It’s the perfect straight edge for all your projects!

Poor product and even worse customer service from Tonic Studios

I would certainly not recommend this product to a friend. I ordered 2 of them on May 30, 2018. The quality of both "rulers" is poor; they do not line up with the measured lines on the media mat when you place the guide lip along the edge of the mat. One is so skewed off the media mat's marked lines that using it will not give you a straight cut or a straight line. The other is mildly skewed and the difference wouldn't be too noticeable. Neither is perfect.

What I am calling the "ruler," for lack of a better term, is the long clear straight edge. It is not actually marked with measurements, as a ruler would be, the measurement lines are on the media mat. If your paper is lined up with the marked lines on the media mat, you would need to also have this "ruler" be straight with those lines in order to make a straight cut.

I did not attempt to use the "ruler" until about a month after I ordered the product. When I learned of the problem, I emailed Tonic Studios customer service immediately (June 28, 2018). I sent pictures of the problem and communicated with them multiple times. Over a month after my first inquiry, the "fix" I was provided was to unscrew the screws, straighten the ruler and tighten again. Since the screws go into two immovable holes, that did not fix the problem. 1) I don't feel I should have to fix a faulty product when it's brand new. The manufacturer should make it well. 2) Any decent company would have long ago apologized and sent me another product, one that had actually been checked for quality before it shipped. This experience has certainly soured me on Tonic Studios products since I now know they will not provide timely customer support.

Potential buyers, be aware that you may get a bad one. You should check right away. Maybe scrapbook.com would be better with their customer service. I did not try to return/exchange with scrapbook.com because I had already thrown out the packaging and it was a month after my purchase. I thought the manufacturer would stand by their product. I was wrong.

    Useless ripe off.

The ruler slides all over the surface. When you try to cut using it it sles away from the knife.I thought it would work like a t-square, but it's only a piece of acrylic with Tim's name on it . The hand tool doesn't work any better that a credit card. I would have tired to send this back, but I threw away the package it came in!

Not the quality I expect from Tim Holtz products

Disappointed in this product. The ruler isn’t straight when pushed up against the edge of my media mat. I had to add a shim to make it lay straight. Good idea...just not created with precision. Not up to the standards of Tim Holtz products.

  • Media Edge isn't square

Such a good idea, but the straight edge isn't square so it doesn't line up with the markings on my TH Glass Mat making it useless. Haven't tried the scraper yet.

    Fantastic media tools set

These 2 tools are a great addition to the glass mat. The scraper is like nothing I have ever used for cleaning up surfaces. I have even used it on a non stick craft sheet that had glue that Would Not Peel off. The acrylic guide is great especially with the metal edge built in. I sew a lot and use this also on a small cutting mat with my rotary cutting tool for fabric. Love this set

Works great on Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat.

Love these tool set of Tim Holtz. I had worked with glue on mine glass media mat and I thought I cleaned it off really good. So I tried the scrapper on it and now I don't have anything left on my mat. Thanks for carrying it on your site.

    TH media matt took set!

My set arrived yesterday and I'm very happy with it. But I do have one question how do I get the rubber corner protectors on the glass work surface to stay attached. They fall off all the time . But love the entire concept of the matt and accessories.

    Works Great with Glass Mat

My only negative was the DELAY in this item coming into stock for purchase. Wish I had when I purchased my glass mat. Nice addition to the mat. Great quality. LOVE IT.

    A must have

The scrapper & ruler (more like a paper guide for a straight line & to find the centers) are a perfect addition for the Tim Holtz glass media mat.

  • Does the media straight edge (ruler) work with the travel mat? Can it screw into the mat as with the large ones?   By: Caleri (18-Oct-19) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello Caleri,
The Media Straight Edge works with the new Travel Mats. I do not know what you mean by "screw into the mat". The straight edge slides across the edge of the mat. Let me know if you have any other questions. By: Tonic Studios (19-Oct-19) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

Does anyone know if the manufacturing issues with the Tim Holtz Glass Media Mat Tool Set have been resolved? This set is a great idea but only if it aligns to the glass mat as it should. I sure dont want to experience what others have reported about it.   By: User (27-Oct-21) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello,
There are several factors as to why your straight edge is not aligning, but can be fixed. The reasons are the grid on the glass mat might be off slight or the assembly of the straight-edge was not square when it was screwed together. More than likely you can square up the straight edge to your glass mat by doing the following
      1. Loosening the screws on the straight edge slightly (DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS).
      2. Put the straight-edge on your glass mat.
      3. While holding the straight-edge firmly to the side of the glass mat, align the straight-edge to the glass mat grid.
      4. Once aligned, tighten the screws and you are good to go.
