Description & Details

Say goodbye to ripping and distressing on the fly when you employ the help of a unique and edgy paper trimmer. Say hello to the Deckle Torn Edge Trimmer by Tim Holtz for Tonic Studios! This revolutionary paper trimmer combines the classic, throwback style of the torn edge with the modern technology of a solid blade cutting device for results that will WOW you with every slice.

Measurements: 12.8" x 2.5" x 9.2" (8.5" wide cutting range within grid)

Features:

  • 8.5" deckled edge blade
  • Non-repeating torn edge design that progresses from subtle to jagged and back to subtle
  • Helpful measurement markings and a ruler in inches and metric centimeters at the top and bottom of the trimmer
  • Standard paper and card size markings (3" x 5", 4" x 6", etc.) for picture-perfect cuts!
  • Helpful 0.25" gridlines throughout the device workspace
  • A clear, plastic paper guard to stabilize your paper and protect your fingers
  • The blade design was inspired by vintage photographs that have an uneven yet unique, random edge

No longer will you need a pair of scissors or a steady hand with paper tearing when you have the Tim Holtz Deckle Trimmer. Every inch of the 8.5" deckle blade produces a unique distressed design that doesn't repeat like a pair of patterned blade scissors. Slice from the top of the trimmer or the bottom for a different look on the edge of your page, paper, or photo.

Perfect for use on:

  • Photographs
  • Card fronts
  • Traveler's notebooks
  • Journal pages
  • Watercolor cardstock
  • Distress heavy stock
  • Yupo paper
  • Metallic specialty paper
  • Heavyweight kraft paper

Tips:

  • The Deckle Torn Edge Trimmer is designed to be used on thicker cardstock (60lb and up)
  • If using with thin cardstock or paper, stack at least 3 sheets together to allow for the best deckle edge cut
  • Make sure you're using the clear plastic finger guard to ensure your cardstock is flat & taught against the trimmer

You won't believe how versatile this little trimmer is for creating unique, eye-catching designs on all your projects. Cut through multiple different weights and types of papers with an easy slice for ragged edges in no time at all!

WARNING: The stainless steel blade is sharp! Be careful not to touch the bare blade with your fingers and always use the plastic paper guard to protect your fingertips when maneuvering the blade arm.

    Its way to small!!!

You can not fit a 8 1/2 by 11 inch piece of paper in this trimmer. That was the main reason I wanted this trimmer. This was only designed for small projects. My heart was just broken into when I received my box and seen just how small it really was in size. A lot of money for a tiny trimmer.

  • Disappointed

I was so happy when this became available. The deckle cut is good in some spots but in others it looks just like a straight cut. If you cut a short piece of paper you may get lucky. If it is a longer cut....

  • Disappointed

I love a deckle edge when making cards. I had purchased a small pair of deckle edge scissors that have a terrific deckle cut, but are small & take time to cut up an entire card, so I was on the waitlist to get Tim’s trimmer. The Holtz trimmer is more like a diluted zig zag than a deckle edge. There is at least an inch or more at the top of the trimmer that cuts a straight edge. If you lift the handle all the way up, it gets stuck & it's difficult to get it back down. I was really looking forward to purchasing this item, please make it better.

    Love these edges!

I haven't used this much yet as I just received it a few days ago. However, the strips I cut for practice are very nice! Tim Holtz suggested moving your paper strip down the blade to get a different edge if that is what you desire. I like all the strips I cut and the quality of the machine seems to be what I've come to expect from T.H. and Tonic.

    Tim Holtz Deckle edge trimmer

I use this to trim the messages added to the inside of cards. It trims so much neater and straighter than deckle edge scissors. I am very pleased with this purchase!

  • deckle torn edge trimmer - Tim Holtz

I have been waiting quite awhile to see this trimmer come to market. I am so happy that Scrapbook.com was one of the first to sell this.
I love this trimmer. For some reason I cannot cut a fancy cut straight. This trimmer makes my cards look great! Well done Tim Holtz and Scrapbook.com.

    Nice!

I love the quality of Tonic and idea of Tim Holtz. The torn trim is perfect for those of us seeking that vintage photo trim. I love it so much I wish the Deckle would be even more defined. The trimmer has a great comfort handle and the black sleek designs nice to look at in my room. I love the bumper edge at the bottom which allows for cutting closer to me instead of struggling to see numbers up top. Love it!

    Deckled Trimmer

I love this Deckled Edge Trimmer!!! Have used it several times and so far it is great!! It does such a great job. It was well worth the long wait for it to become available and I feel the price was OK. If you like a torn edge look even just a little, I recommend this trimmer. I am very happy with mine.

Questions & Answers
  • I also excitedly received the new torn deckle edge trimmer today and I have the other problem that it cuts very clean deckle cuts. No cardstock slightly torn up in the making of these edges. I then had to use my old blade method to soften up these very clean cuts. I was using Bazzill cardstock. (And no it isn't the deckle edge trimmer it is the torn deckle edge one). Any ideas?   By: pam.jemmett (19-Nov-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • I actually thought the deckle edge trimmer was not cutting correctly and contacted Tim Holtz. This is the way it is supposed to cut, like photographs from the 50's. The cut is not as "rustic" as some other types. By: arousso (28-Nov-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

    • Thank you arousso. That does clarify things. I wonder, then, why they have called it a torn deckle edge trimmer, and not just a deckle edge trimmer. All the hype was about this trimmer giving softer, torn like, edges. It does work as a trimmer but not what I expected or anticipated. • I excitedly received by new deckle edge trimmer the other day sooner than stated... YaY! My question is.... Is anyone else experiencing cutting a single sheet of regular paper not completing the cut? It's more of a mashing tearing.... Works good on cardstock or at least two pieces of regular paper (coffee dyed printer paper)...   By: Debs Ditties (05-Nov-20) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • Hello Debs Ditties,
This trimmer was designed for heavy card stock (60 lb and up). However, if you want to cut lighter weight paper like copy paper, it is best to cut 3 sheets at a time. Make sure that you hold the paper down with the clear guard and it will cut easily. By: Tonic Studios (05-Nov-20) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! I have this sized guillotine trimmer and just ordered the deckle-edged one. If you exert pressure on the straight-edge trimmer, it will either get pushed outwardly toward the right and not cut at all, or if pushed to the left, it will hang up on the base and will seem jammed. Try just putting enough pressure on the blade to let it move straight downward. You need to get the feel for the trimmer. Also, if you're trying to cut several layers of papers, that's too many layers to try to cut at a time. I've noticed that mine will have trouble cutting cardboard if it's too thick. It's a paper trimmer, which is good for paper and cardstock. I will remember this question of yours when my deckle trimmer arrives and get back with you if I have any input for you. Tonic makes good products and you should contact them about the problems you're having. They stand behind their products. If you haven't contacted Scrapbook.com with your complaint, then you should do so. They stand behind what they sell.

I am writing this to both Scrapbook.com and to Tonic. I buy frequently from both line of products but am disappointed in this trimmer. Esp for the cost. I noticed several others mentioned the issues that I have.
Yes I have had the handle get stuck and I have to push it down so hard to "unlock" that I just know it is going to break!!! It also takes a few tries to get the paper to butt up and stay put when cutting. It does seem to tear it sometimes esp at the bottom of the paper. It doesn't cut very well thru any handmade paper, even if on the thinner ones, that I want to use which is the main reason I bought this trimmer. Disappointed.   By: KKennedy (16-Apr-21) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello Paper Crafters,
      If you are having issue with your Tim Holtz Deckle Edge Trimmer, please feel free to contact Tonic at anytime. Our number is (209) 253-0596. Tips for using this trimmer are as follows;
      1. When cutting cardstock, cut only one piece of paper at a time.
      2. Make sure that you use the clear plastic paper holder to hold the paper in place while cutting.
      3. Push the cutting arm straight down! I have found that pushing the handle down works much better verses grabbing the handle and pulling it down. By: Tonic Studios (18-Apr-21) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!
