    TH Precision Craft Trimmer

So far, I LOVE IT! Blade cuts smoothly. Love the grid lines. The only downside I’ve encountered is having to swap out the cutting blade with the scoring “blade”. I would like to have both blades on at the same time — which you can do if you aren’t cutting a full size piece of paper or card stock. But maybe I’m doing it wrong and it is possible to leave both cutter and scorer on at the same time and cut 11 or 12” paper.

    Precision

I love my precision cutter by Tim Holtz. Watched the into video. I purchased one as my old cutter had seen its day. The TH cutter is a sharp clean cut, no hard pressure needed. Packed with many guide markers on the base. The replacement blade is safely put away until needed. The score blade works great. So glad I made the investment.

    Measurements to small to see

Cuts fantastic. Measurement are too small to see if your vision is not great. Love the trimmer, but the 16th and the1/8th is to hard to read

    TH Precision Trimmer

Great trimmer. Very similar to his other trimmer that looks the same. (Not the rotary one) Love the way you can just slide the paper under without always having to raise the bar. To be honest, I never thought about a trimmer without raising the bar because we always have. Just never gave it any thought, but now after using this it’s like, why didn’t someone think of this before? Light weight so it’s easy to take with you to crops. Glad I decided to see what all the hype was about with this one. Highly recommend.

    Love it!

I have had one issue with paper trimmers, and Tim mentioned it in his live - you have to stop and lift the guide to get your paper underneath. This new trimmer fixes this problem and I love it. This makes cutting much easier.

    Threes a charm!

Over a 20-year period, this is my third trimmer. The first, and by far the most expensive, was a rotary trimmer. The second was the same type as this Tim Holtz Precision Trimmer. Tim’s is the absolute best and I bought it based on his reputation and my experience with other products of his. It is the first trimmer that cut a true, straight line. When I cut my card stock to make a card, it actually folds in half perfectly, both sides lining up perfectly. Also, the blade cuts through the paper like butter. I’m hoping that the blade lasts longer than those for the other similar trimmer I have. Based on its performance, I am optimistic that will be the case. Also, the price point on this trimmer is exceptional.

    Cutting heavy cardstock

Didn't have a problem with the trimmer until I used it to cut a lot of heavy cardstock. After about 4 cuts, the cutter blade and the track were filled with crumbs, and I had to clean them. Have not experienced this with other paper trimmers. I do like the "spring" lifting function. Wish the scorer and cutting blade would have fit on the trimmer together. Have found that removing and replacing the cutting blade unit is a little more difficult than with other trimmers. The cutter seems happy to come out, but not so happy to go back in. Probably it's just me, and I need to adjust. I think I'll consider a guillotine next time. Definitely will not hinder me from purchasing other Tim Holtz/Tonic Studios products.

    Not worth the headache

The trimmer I received looked like it had previously been used. There was paper fuzz in the tracks when I took it out of the box. The plastic track was all cut up and won’t give a clean cut. Still haven’t heard back from scrapbook.com about my issue.
I also see that there are other complaints online about this trimmer, so I’m curious what will be done with my overpriced new paperweight. Sad that Tim Holtz’s team put out an unusable product.

  • How do you cut a 6 1/2 piece of paper? Marks do not look present.   By: Joyce Webb (03-Nov-23) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello, Tim Holtz shared a great piece of advice in his livestream on YouTube regarding the 6 1/2" mark. He advised that it depends on what you are cutting. For example if your paper is 11" you can cut the paper at 4 1/2" and it will get you the cut at 6 1/2" as well. Sometimes if the measurement is not there that you need you can do the reverse math and cut at that measurement to get what you need. • How thick of paper will it cut? Will it cut plastic paper?   By: Zacktobe5 (20-Nov-23) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hello Zacktobe5,
The heaviest paper Tonic offeres is 110 lb and it cuts single sheets just fine. Regarding acetate (Plastic Paper), it will cut single sheets just fine. If you are cutting a lot of this, you will want to make sure you have new sharp blades. By: Tonic Studios (20-Nov-23) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • How durable or long-lasting are the blades? I use my trimmer a TON and I'm constantly needing to buy refills or deal with the dreaded fuzzy edges. I cut anything from 110lb cover down to printer paper, usually in between.   By: cristy d (21-Jun-24) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. • Hello, the blades have been well made and should last a decent amount of time. We do not have a specific longevity for the blades as it is really going to depend on how often the trimmer is being used and what type of material is being cut. Replacement blades are available for purchase. If you find your are going through blades often it could be worth also looking into a guillotine paper trimmer. • The beauty of the 3961e TH Precision Trimmer and the 3960e TH Rotary Trimmer is that a Lefty can rotate these trimmers 180 degrees and use them left-handed. By: Tonic Studios (21-Dec-23) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This Answer has been reported. Thank you!

  • Is it possible to have both the scoring and cutting blades in the track at the same time, and does the cutter function as designed if you do that?   By: Cl3nelson (22-Nov-23) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Hi CI3nelson,
The answer is yes and no. If you are cutting 12" x 12" paper, the answer is no because the scoring blade would be in the way. If you are cutting paper 11" or less, you could have both scoring and cutting blade on the track at the same time. However, if you have the Scoring Blade under the Cutting Blade you will need to line your paper up at the top of the trimmer. If the Cutting Blade is under the Scoring Blade, then you need to line up your paper at the bottom. By: Tonic Studios (22-Nov-23) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you! • What are the dimensions of this trimmer? There is only one measurement in the description. Also, how much does it weigh?   By: ingrid1946 (05-Nov-23) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • Weight out of the box is 2 lbs 1oz. The dimensions at the widest points are - 9" wide x 17" long x 1.5" high. When the extension arms are extended, the width is 14.5". • Does the extended arm have a lip to keep the paper in place and avoid shifting when engaged?   By: acharriez13 (05-Nov-23) Helpful Question?  Yes  |  No Thank you! Report Inappropriate This question has been reported. Thank you!
    • The extension arms do not have the "lip" as it is not needed. Since the first 6+" has the lip, you are squaring up your paper there before cutting. Additionally, when you hold "blade track" to cut, this holds the paper in place so it will not move when cutting. By: Tonic Studios (06-Nov-23) Helpful Answer?  Yes  |  No Thank you!
