This is my favorite black ink! It's true black, it stamps neatly every time and the ink pad is so juicy, it's been that way since I got it. I worked in a marketing campaign for Umbrella Crafts a couple of years ago and since then I haven't stopped using it for every single stamping job that requires black. It is AMAZING! I am new to card making I was using other ink pads and I was not happy with outcome then I happened to see your site and have ordered most of the ink pads and refills. I am so happy with them. I was going to give it up,thinking that I was no good at it, then I used your ink pads and I love love them. I would recommend these to anyone they work great and this goes for all the colours.
This ink is a TRUE BLACK ink. It isn't a dark gray or blue/black but a fabulous black color that you sometimes want. It holds up to watercolor without smearing and stamps a crisp image, like the other Umbrella Crafts Inks.
I gave it a 4 because it is not great for alcohol markers. I tried drying it over night and with a heat gun but it still smeared with the alcohol markers.
That said, I have different types of ink in my collection for different purposes. I will be keeping this to use when I just want a nice, clearly stamped sentiment or when I am using watercolors. It is a really nice ink.

This ink gives a clean and crisp result. I am no recommending it to all of my friends, I even bought one for a friend who hasn't met a black ink that she likes! I'll keep you posted on her reaction.

I posted a lot of questions about inks in the Q and A’s a while ago. After getting replies, I ordered an assortment of dyes, pigments and hybrids. Every dye, pigment, and hybrid I ordered is fantastic. This is one of them.
I created a chart on medium lavender using the same two stamps and on the same paper. I did not want to use white paper because I wanted to see it on a different color that was darker than a light color paper. The paper I used was the medium shade of the three lavenders I have. I was checking for clarity on the medium shade color, bleeding and drying time. All the inks I tested stamped beautifully. All but two (they are the exact same except for the color) were dry ASAP. They were all but two dry at least by the time my stamps were cleaned and ready to do the next stamp pad test.
This Scrapbook Premium Dye ink is fast drying. The color is beautiful on the medium shade cardstock. This color dye shows up clearly and beautifully. It does not have a chalky feel like the pigment ink I used the very first time I stamped anything.
The bird is not as clear and the thin text lines are not as crisp as the Scrapbook Premium Hybrid Ink, but it is extremely close. I can only tell because they are side by side on my chart. It had the same fast drying time as the Scrapbook Premium Hybrid ink.

I bought a couple of these inks to try them out. Trying the black ink, which it turns out works very well, was a major endeavor as I fought to get the top off. There is a serious design flaw in the pad construction. I understand you want a good seal to stop the ink drying out but beware of buying these inks if you have arthritis. Getting them open is not an easy endeavor. Suggestion - make the lip of the lid a little wider and easier to grip.
I've had the same Scrapbook.com black premium dye ink pad since starting card making, always fine, a great workhorse. When I left it at work and couldn't get it right away, I bought a discount ink pad at a craft store. I lasted about three days with that thing until I had to order a second one of these for home. It's just a great all-around pad to use. Hasn't failed me yet. A key tool.

I love this ink pad. It doesn't streak when I use my copic markers and make an oops by going over the line.
