As a scrapbooker, I love participating in challenges. They give me a way to boost my creativity in ways I might not have thought about if I hadn’t been completing a challenge.

These days, there seem to be hundreds of challenge blogs out there. It is hard to keep track of them all, much less participate in all of them.

And that’s where the Pile it On Challenge comes in. Pile It On Challenge is a blog which encourages scrapbookers and cardmakers to participate in as many challenges as they can - on one creation. So the real challenge is to figure out how many challenges you can pile on to your card or layout.

Pile It On Challenges are posted every Sunday.  Some challenges they have run are “Make It Sweet,” “Spring,” “Make an Easel Card,” and “Furry Friends.” As a participant, you do their challenge, and incorporate another challenge from at least one other current (at the time of posting) challenge in your creation. You post your creation on your blog or gallery with links to the current challenges. Then, every Friday, they post the “Top 3 Scoops” as well as a random winner from the previous challenge.

The best part of the blog is the extensive list of challenges in the sidebar. They have them organized by the day of the week, so no matter when you are feeling in the mood to scrap, you’ll be able to find challenges that work for you.

Here’s an example of a layout I made for a challenge:

The Pile It On Challenge that week was “Spring.” I combined it with a sketch challenge, plus a challenge (from the ever-popular “How Much is Too Much?” blog) to use two fonts in the title, plus stitching and/or fabric, plus bling and/or pearls.

I have a lot of fun doing the Pile It On challenges. It really gets me to try lots of things on a project and break free from my normal scrapbooking rut. If you need something to stretch your creativity, I highly recommend it.
