I'm always looking for new paper collections to try and new things to make with my scrapbooking supplies, so when I saw the Three Bugs in a Rug - Home Grown Collection - Memory Box Kit I thought I would give it a try.
The kit comes with a nice selection of double-sided patterned papers, as well a sheet of chit-chat stickers, the memory box, and a sheet of instructions. The memory box is simple to punch out and assemble, and the instructions are easy to follow to cover the box with patterned papers. Since the papers all coordinate nicely, it is easy to choose papers. I suggest measuring the sections in addition to following the instructions. Using a gluestick to adhere, the outside of the box can be assembled and decorated very quickly and easily. I added some stamps and rub-ons to the papers before I adhered them to the box. I also added a ribbon around the edge of the lid.
Note that the box does not stay together when the top comes off. The sides flop down to reveal the decorations inside. The insides can be decorated with the patterned paper and photos, or with any other types of mementos. The stickers, with nice family-oriented sayings, would be the perfect complement to family photos.
Overall, the finished product is easy to make and is a fun gift. My only complaint is that the photos on the outside need to be very small or the top halves will be covered by the lid. I solved this problem by not using any photos on the outside.
This kit comes with so many papers and stickers that I was able to make a number of additional layouts and other projects. The stickers provide wonderful sayings for home- and family-themed layouts. I also found that the dotted papers are perfect for a variety of other themes, including Disney photos and recipe cards. If the Homegrown collection isn't your style, there are several other themes available such as Bee Mine, Playtime, Oh What Fun (Christmas), Color Me Pink, Autumn, and others.
If you are looking for a quick project to make a gift or just something to display around the house, I would definitely recommend a Three Bugs in a Rug Memory Box kit.
