I love a good challenge.  It really forces me to think outside the box.  I also love to use color on my scrapbook pages.  What could be more fun than a color combination challenge?!  So, I challenged fellow scrapbookers Cheryl Overton, Jennifer Sizemore and Irene Mueller to use a certain color combination on their scrapbook layouts.

The rules are simple:

  • You must use all of the colors in the combination.
  • The amount you use of each color is up to you.
  • In addition to the colors in the combination, you may use white, black or tan.
  • You must have fun!

With summer right around the corner, I chose the following color scheme:

Here is what we came up with...

In Cheryl's layout, "Where's Waldo?" she used red as her base color and accented the rest of her page with green, blue and yellow touches for a clean, crisp yet playful look.  Way to go, Cheryl!

In Jen's layout she used little bits of all the colors in the combination to create this fabulous layout.  Jen also added the clever touch of copying the html color code from the link at and pasted it into her color selector in PSE to give her an exact match for the text on her layout.  What a great idea!!!

I love how Irene used green patterned paper as her background.  By printing her journaling in blue strips she really put the focus on it.  Her yellow buttons are the perfect accents for the centers of the flowers.

For my layout, I used an almost equal amount of each color to create a colorful layout about our trip to Disney.

With the scraps from my layout, I created this quick and easy thank you card.

It has been so fun to see how each person used the same colors yet created such unique looks.  I cannot wait to see what you can do with this color combination.  If you create a layout based on the color combo challenge, be sure to note it in your title so I can see what you have done.  If you like this sort of challenge, this is only the beginning.  There will be more color combination inspiration articles in the future.
