for this week's sketch at Let's Scrap, and a challenge there that must document something life changing that happened in your life.

I will try to make this story as short as I can...

This is me (on the left) and my best friend from high school, Becky, at our 20 year reunion, in 2001. We both came from families that thought raising their kids in a small town would be good for them. When I was 8, my parents moved to San Jacinto, CA, a small dairy town, from a city near the Los Angeles Airport. Becky's family moved from Huntington Beach, CA (where I live now), when she was 14. We became fast friends, we both played flute in band.

The downside to growing up in a small town was that everybody got married young. Becky married her high school boyfriend right after graduation, I got married to my 1st husband at 21. Both were abusive relationships, but I was fortunate to get out after a couple of years. She was with her's for almost 20.

So at our reunion we were happy...I with my current husband, and she was happy that she had just left her's. She had spent a night at my house, and realized that she had once lived in my neighborhood, and knew the old owner's of our house...and one was cute! So even though she now lived in Georgia, she found him and started a long distance relationship. It was nice for me too, 'cause when she'd come to see him, we'd have lunch. The last lunch I ate with her, she said at home she carried a gun with her because she was terrified of her ex. Could I have done something?

That Christmas I received a letter from that boyfriend, who of course knew my address, explaining Becky had been murdered by the ex, who then killed himself. He included an article about it, and I went online to print more. I will include all of these items in an envelope behind this layout, which I plan to frame.

I realized when I was walking today that I needed to do this for this challenge after hearing on my Ipod the song "For Good" from the musical Wicked, which always reminds me of her and makes me cry while I walk (thank goodness for sunglasses), so I printed the lyrics to that song on the layout.
