SHCG: What an awesome experience and to capture it with photos is superb. I love your story and the pictures take us on your journey. I love the 2 circle pics and their placement. The nature looking mats really add to this. Great job on the LO and the saunter.
SHCG: Awesome LO, great colors and arrangement. I love how your LOs are always so neat & clean! This was quite an accomplishment and it's great that you were able to complete it. :)
SHCG: Wow, you haven't lost an ounce of blushpeassence! This is you, through and through. You've got your collage and stamped elements, inking, cropping, matting, journaling, captions and multipics all in your spread. I love the porthole-like circle pics. Great mirroring and overall placement. My only suggestion is to add "the" in tiny alphas, vertically next to the g in the title block. What a wonderful pre-Caruso accomplishment, Sharon!
I scrapped this in 2010 while at a scrap retreat & since I had my son in late '10, haven't had a chance to upload until now. Motherhood has made finding time to scrap a challenge, so this might be the last time I mat photos in quite a long while, LOL.
I did this hike May '09 w/ my good friend Ramon. The Great Saunter was particularly meaningful because not only was it a long walk around my home (Manhattan) but I had it in my head that this was the big event I had to do before I quit taking the pill (& indeed that was the case!).
Journaling for those interested: "May 2009 - I am so proud of myself for completing the Great Saunter 2009, a 32 mile hike round Manhattan’s perimeter! Hiking/environmental group Shorewalkers has held this walk for 24 yrs. I experienced NYC in an amazing way while tackling probably the biggest physical challenge I’ve ever faced! Ramon & I started at 7:45AM from South Street Seaport on the southern tip to hike clockwise round the isle, mostly along the river. Ramon took it pretty lightheartedly, hadn’t trained & hadn’t brought a pack; I walked 5-8 miles a week for a couple months prior & brought a full backpack of drinks, food, socks, 1st aid stuff etc. ** It was splendid to take in the sights, plus there were plenty of NYC park bathrooms to use along the way! ** Around 11AM we made it to Riverbank State Park (W. 145th St.), 11 miles in. I was LOVING my trail mix by then & would continue to! ** By about 15 miles in (UWS), I got that work-out feeling in my legs, while Ramon joked about needing a podiatrist. It continued to be fun chatting & exploring! ** Greg came to say hi at 181st St! (approx 13 miles), sooo sweet! ** Lunch at Inwood Hill Park (Manhattan’s northern tip) around 1:30PM, 16.2 miles. Following, we crossed Inwood to the east side. Ramon started needing breaks… ** At E 150th St, he finally had to quit (called himself “a mess”!). But he made it 20 miles - excellent!** Odd after he left… parts of E Harlem were deserted & tricky to navigate. ** Got nicer when I crossed the pedestrian bridge over the freeway at 120th St. & was walking by the river again. Awesome views & friendly chats w/ other walkers. ** By around 100th St., I started feeling foot sensations…the force of walking for that long on mostly pavement takes a toll on tendons/ ligaments… ** At the lovely Carl Schurz Park (E. 89th St. @ 25 miles), exhausted Saunterers were such contrast between the carefree parkgoers… I ate more trail mix (FUEL), pain reliever & got a 2nd wind. ** Beautiful, brilliant views in mellowing sunlight! ** The last 7 miles were rough & long…I was feeling single-minded determination to just make it through while enjoying myself too. ** By the time I passed the Williamsburg Bridge (@ Delancey St.), I felt twitches in my knees (foot sensations & lower body muscle-burning of course still present too). ** It was dark by the time I photographed the Manhattan/Brooklyn bridges, w/ hurt feet & red eyes (pollen/pollution irritation?), but I felt pure exhilaration through the last miles. And then… I have never been so happy to see the damn South Street Seaport in my entire life! I finished about 8:35PM. Got my certificate & TOOK A CAB HOME. Tired but TRIUMPHANT. I DID IT, I completed the Great Saunter!!"
