just some thoughts on my son entering his teenage years. sometimes he wants more freedom than i am willing to allow. thanks to nic, my journaling is nice and even! tfl
JOURNALING: i know to you it probably seems like your whole life is limited, and that’s probably because, it pretty much is. what television shows you can watch, what video games you can play, what internet sites you can go on, how far you can take your bike. the list goes on and on. i know to you, it seems unfair, but you should know that we do this for a reason. you see it’s part of our job to help guide you in the right direction. sure we want to be your friends, but we must be your parents first. in the next year as you finish junior high and enter high school you’ll be faced with some of the toughest decisions you’ll ever have to make, and those decisions can very well effect the rest of your life. all we can do is help prepare the path for you, by giving you your freedom one step at a time so that you learn to make the right choices. for us, this is what parenting is about. one day you’ll be on your own (of course we will always be here to support you, no matter what your age) but you will eventually be making your own decisions and taking yourself down your own path. so when you think life stinks because you can’t take your bike to the 7-11, just remember you’ve got your whole life ahead of you. so for now, there will be some restrictions on your freedom, so that you can learn to be the best person you can possibly be. 9-20-07
