Journaling reads "Babcia was born in 1916 in Poland, the oldest of 6 children. When she was young, her father passed away, so she quit school in the 6th grade in order to help her mother work the farm and take care of her siblings.

She married my grandfather, A, in 1937 and they soon began their own family. L, J, J, and my mother, D.

The family moved to the states in 1961, a move she was more than happy to make.

She and Jajo (sp) flourished here in the states and were very happy.

Babcia was a serious, sensitive woman with a soft heart. She liked to shop and work in her flower and vegetable garden. Her green beans were my favorite.

She also liked to cook. Whenever we would go to her house, she always has something on the stove and in the oven. She was always pushing us to eat something…”Eat! Eat! Eat!” she would say until we finally did eat. You never left her house with an empty stomach…she didn’t allow that. And if you requested something specific…Kasha was my thing…all the better. She loved to cook for people.

Christmas was her favorite holiday. My mother was just telling me the other day about what Christmas was like when she was a child. The house loaded up with decorations, gifts hidden inside the tree, and, of course, the food.

It was much the same when I was a child. I remember all the shiny lights, the tinsel, and the beautiful, glass ornaments. And always, the feast that she, my mom, and my aunt would prepare.

Christmas at her house was exactly what you read about in books. Warm memories of the family sitting together at the dining room table, eating the vast amount of food; the kids tearing into the gifts around the tree, and the adults looking on as we played with our new toys. Everyone happy and in good spirits. You could feel the love in the air. It. Was. Perfect.

Babcia was also a very independent woman. And stubborn. Which can be a powerful…and frustrating…combination. She was a hard worker that never shied away from a task, even if that task was something that any other person would request help on…she would do it herself. That’s just the way she was.

She loved her family very much, but in her final years, she longed to be with her husband. She is with him now. She is happy and in peace. She has lived a very long life and is finally at rest. I know in my heart that she is happy and she will always be with us in our hearts."
