it's so hard for me to believe
that you are in the 4th Grade already.
where has the time gone?
i remember your first day of
kindergarten like it was yesterday.
but now, it’s so long to the days of naps
and coloring, hello to the world of
fractions and long division. sigh.
my little baby is growing
up. will the rest of your childhood
go as quickly? i hope not.
i dread the day that you’ll be too cool
to kiss your mama good-bye.
to say “i love you” and “have a nice
day” as you get out of the car.
i know that the time frame i have with you
as my “baby” is getting smaller.
so don’t mind me as i cling ever so tightly
to these days of your childhood.
excuse me as i smother you with hugs
and kisses every chance i get.
cause in no time, you’ll no longer
be my baby boy.
and i’m so not ready to let go.
