This LO I did to put up at my lss in hopes that the awesome ladies there will make cards to send to my sweet two year old niece that just got diagnosed with retinoblastoma- a rare cancer that strikes children under the age of five.

the journaling reads-

This is Chloe, she is my two year old niece. I'd like to share with you Chloe's story.

It all started on Feb 27 2009. Chloe was taken to the eye doctor a few days before because her parent thought she had a lazy eye. This doctor thought it was possibly a detached retina so he sent Chloe to a specialist. This appointment was on March 2. The day that changed our lives forever.

Chloe was sent to Sick Kids in Toronto. She has been diagnosed with Retinoblastoma. A rare cancer that strikes kids under the age of five, and very aggressive. Retinoblastoma is caused by and error on chromosome 13. In Chloe's case it affects both eyes, however in some children it affects only one.

The first picture was taken in September 2008, there is nothing visible that this horrible disease was growing inside of her. In the second picture you can see the tell tale 'white eye' in her left eye. This is the biggest sign of retinoblaseoma. This picture was taken around Christmas time, just to give you an idea of how fast this cancer grows.

Chloe was admitted to Sick kids right away and had a MRI done one March 1st. It showed the tumors in the left eye and the right eye and also that the optic nerve was affected too. On March 2nd Chloe underwent a 4 1/2 hour surgery to remove the left eye and part of the optic nerve. She had a spinal tap and a bone marrow harvest. Picture 3 shows Chloe after the surgery.

On March 6th Chloe started 'killer Chemo'. She had two days and it takes 10 hours to complete. She will need 4 months of Chemo and then 8 month of Cryo therapy. The Chemo makes Chloe very sick and she has to have I.V. therapy after it for weeks because of the sever jaw pain. These treatments last 6 hours. Picture 4 shows Chloe after her first Chemo, the patch was just removed and she is very sick, but still smiling.

Picture 5 is Chloe one week after the first Chemo. She has new glasses to protect the affected right eye.

This sweet Angel has been through so much and still has such a long road ahead. We hope they can save the right eye. Her Chemo is every 21 days.

Please help me to support Chloe and to help cheer her up through this long journey by making cards for her. The cards can be dropped off here at the Nook and I will bring them to her. Chloe also has a four year old sister and a new baby on the way. The entire family has to be tested and watched for this type of cancer. We pray Chloe keeps her spirit through all of this.

Chloe is truly amazing. She has so much to teach us about courage and strength. We love her very much.
