8-31-09... Mt Adams, located in Yakima County in the state of Washington . The HISTORY of Mt Adams is quite interesting. It is the second highest mountain in Washington, at 12,281 feet, in the the Cascade Range & is part of the Cascade Volcanic Arc. While it has been dormant for over 1400 years it is a potentially active volcano. The Yakima Indian Reservation is on the eastern side & the Gifford Pinchot National Forest which includes the Mt Adams Wilderness area is on the western side. While rich in HISTORY it is a popular mountain for climbing, hiking & back packing. [P8186652]
