That background paper is terrific! I think you did a great job of making a masculine lo with flowers, flourishes and bling!! I first noticed a great masculine lo and it didn't dawn on me that it had those until I read your description! LOL Love the layered flower and the heart as the center of the "D" is such a great idea!
A picture of the kids with my hubby back in 2002 (I think!). Hubby was active duty in the Navy and stationed about 6 hours away, so he only came home once a month. I tried to keep the lo masculine and it just looked too plain, so on when the flowers and pearl flourishes! Using up some more of my old stash (I wish all paper companies printed their identity on the back!), some zva creative brown pearl flourishes, and I recovered some horrid (royal metallic blue) chipboard letters with blue cardstock. I used Glimmer Mist Pearl on the word "Dad", which you can't see in the photo, but it gives it a special shimmer. I had corrugated cardboard "ribbon" so I inked it to match (a few colors combined was the trick) and layered with some misc ribbon that seemed to match. The hearts and brown swirl are Thickers chipboard (and this pic makes them look almost red, but they actually match pretty good!)
