Journaling reads: "During our second year of homeschooling, I decided that you kids really needed to do some sort of science “experiments”. At the time, one of you was studying about starting fires using a magnifying glass. So, I gave each of you a small magnifying glass and we all trooped out to the driveway. Each of you scouted around the yard and gathered up different materials to use in the experiment. We had dried corncobs, leaves and pinestraw. Somehow, “Woody” managed to find his way outside with us. Of course, one of you got the bright idea to re-enact a scene from the movie Toy Story ~ you know the one ~ where the kid tries to set Woody on fire with a magnifying glass! Well… being the meany that I am, I quickly nixed this idea. However, I did allow Woody to stay with us during the experiment, but only as an observer. You all had a great time playing with fire, anything not to have to do written work! You did manage to burn some ‘faces’ into the corncobs and got the leaves and pinestraw to ignite. October 2000 "

I had a lot of fun making this "Woody" embellie. Each little piece is hand cut, inked and doodled. I got the pattern from a book by Hot Off the Press - 201 Paper Piecing Patterns (old). The 'rock' paper that I used to make the wall (looks nearly identical to our rock wall), I've had for probably 10 years. I used rub on letters for "with" and Thickers for "playing" and "Fire". I actually burned the edges of my journaling piece with matches - almost burned too much in one place - LOL! The grass is made by stamping on green pp and then cutting it out. I just love how "Woody" turned out, but when I finished my page I felt like something was missing. Sarah and Andrea came up with the idea to make a magnifying glass and put it in his hand! Great idea - it completed the page! I used a small, round, clear, epoxy bubble for the 'glass' and punched a small leaf to put under it. Thanks for looking!
