This is a photo of my Grandparents, Thomas and Mabel. This picture was taken during one of Thomas's shore leaves from the Royal Navy. My Grandfather lied about his age so he could join Her Majesty's Navy. he was only 16. He spent time in the Bearing Sea during the Russian Revolution and fought in WWI and WWII. He started out as a stoker, shoveling coal into the steam engine.

They were married in November 1923 at the ripe old age of 23. The child with them in the picture is the first of 7 children, my Auntie Beryl. They lived all there lives in Ispwich,in the south east of England.

We used to Tease my grandmothers that all her pregnancies coincided with Thomas's leave from his ship. She sometimes had to wait a year or more to see him. Mabel died when she was 87 and Thomas died at 91.

I was fortunate to have been an adult when they were alive, and had the honor of having them at my wedding. My husband, Arthur and Thomas spent many afternoons at the local pub drinking Guinness
