1968 family vacation. Flin Flon or Flintabbatey Flonatin, was as far north as you could go on a paved road in Manitoba in 1968. It is a mining town and the road ended at a fence surrounding a big open pit. The town was small, had bare wooden buildings and wooden boardwalks were constructed above the bare dirt. The water and sewer pipes were out in the open above the rocky ground. This was an extraordinary place to visit. We stayed at the Lake Athapapuskow Lake campground. This is where I tried to catch a softball with my upper lip and nose and ended up with a very fat lip and bloody nose. Its also where I collected a little nodule with garnets embeded throughout. I sure was surprised when I picked that little pebble up and cracked it open to find tiny little reddish purple garnets inside. FUN! We also went fishing here and further N at Bakers Narrows.
