Very close to the dock was a HUGE warehouse where the big Mardi Gras floats were assembled. It is actually opened to the public and this is one attraction where I feel the high cost to get in was worth it! We our pictures taken next to some of the new ones being constructed for next year's Mardi Gras parade! It was fascinating to see all these mammoth floats and characters so close.
It was fun to see the designers and artists working on the floats. Engineers with blueprints were checking on the construction areas working out final details. We even met and took a picture of one of the artists. He had been painting the pillow and Cinderella's slipper for one of the floats.
The one that made us laugh thought was the GIANT WHOPPEE CUSION! (Next page)! We weren't quite sure what it was at first so we asked. I don't know what the finished float is going to look like but I would love to see this going down Bourbon Street as part of the Mardi Gras parade next year!
