AND your thinking about finishing sorting before you purge is right on -- that's what organization guru Julie Morgenstern recommends. You can't know what you no longer need until you see all you have in that category. Too, you can't buy the right size storage containers until you know what all you have (that you are keeping, that is).

My thought was the same as KatieJo's -- use a larger, sturdier kraft or gift bag w/handles. That's what I have done for storing smaller gift bags. The whole thing then stands up very easily in a closet at that point.

I will probably purge some after sorting and organizing is complete. I have a pile going of things to give to particular people (labeling who as I am going). After/during organizing, I will be purging things I no longer use (like a coluzzle(sp?) system I found - unopened).

Well, if you are pretty sure that you might want or need to purge some of these, then I would suggest that in the meantime, you find a temporary storage device for the extra bags... like a larger paper bag or a big box. If you are pretty sure you will want to keep them, then you are simply going to have invest in a larger permanent bin now. That way, you can use this for something else maybe. If you are still completely unsure, the temporary storage idea is probably the safer bet in the meantime - because it is definitely cheaper. I just went through the organizing class this summer and was constantly shifting things around to find something that worked better for each product. Good luck to you.
