In the UK, the driving test is in two parts, and pretty difficult. The theory test is done under exam conditions and you have to pass that with a particular mark before you can apply for the practical test. Most people have to take the practical test at least twice if not three times, and its expensive too! Kids are not allowed to start driving until they are 17, and the test is normally with a stick shift car. My ds' gf has just finally passed her practical test on the 3rd go - she thought she'd never get there, so I had to create a special card for her!
