Monday, March 3rd, 2014 – Welcome to Hong Kong! We love 2 day ports! The weather was awful all day today – overcast with a lot of mist in the air. No visibility at all so that ruled out anything scenic. Very reminiscent of our last trip to Hong Kong. We battled rain and drizzle the entire time we were in Hong Kong then too.

The rain let up a bit so we took public transportation to Stanley Market which is like a huge flea market. There were a few things we were looking for and this was a good place to try to find them. We wanted a backpack with wheels for Bill and a 64 mg flash drive for me.

Bill carries a backpack with my portable stool, our umbrellas, our computer tablets, and both cameras as well as other odds and ends we need in port. Sometimes we pack a change of clothes if we are going swimming, sandwiches or snacks from the ship for lunch so we can stop in a park somewhere for a picnic, as well as things we purchase in port. If I get tired of carrying my purse, I throw it in the backpack too. Problem is, the backpack gets heavy – and then when he buys a couple 12-packs of Coke or Pepsi for our cabin his backpack becomes unmanageable.

In Hong Kong we found a nice big backpack with lots of pockets and it has wheels so it can be pulled. Most backpacks with wheels have tiny wheels that break easily but we found one with nice big wheels so it is easy to pull.

My computer is full of pictures and I wanted to back them all up on one device instead of splitting files between an assortment of small flash drives so we bought a 64 mg flash drive at the Stanley Market which will hold every photo on my computer! This flash drive is going to make my life much easier. As disastrous as the thought is, if the ship goes down we can't take our computers off the ship. However we have waterproof pouches (with straps to go around our necks) for iPhones, flash drives and other small items. I put my favorite jewelry in it too and keep it in the safe in our cabin. I am very careful to download my pictures to my computer every night and then add them to the flash drive so if something happens to my computer, my pictures are all backed up.

We went back to the ship for an early dinner in the Lido, then Jan and I looked at each other's cruise pictures on our computers while Bill braved the cold and dampness (and it really was getting cold and the rain was really coming down) to go to the night market to buy strong laser pointers for John and Joe. John asked Bill to get one of the really powerful ones that will actually start a fire. I do not know why. Bill also bought one for Joe.

It was almost midnight when Bill got home. A hot shower thawed him out a bit and then it was time for bed. I don't think either one of us turned over all night – nothing woke us up out of sound sleep all night!
