I love being able to see pictures of this home and the island. I saw a Globetrekker episode where the host went to Saint Helena Island and he went through this home, to his tomb and talked about how Napoleon was banished to this island to live out the rest of his days. I Put this on my bucket list and here you are doing pages on it! Thank you so much. I doubt I will ever get there but not I feel like I saw the important parts. Wonderful pictures!
Yes, Napoleon was moved. I saw his tomb, and his son's, in Paris when we were there. How cool is this! Now I've seen where he was first buried. Thank you Henri! :)
As soon as he started the tour he said to us, “I hope you don't mind but when we go around some of the sharp turns on the mountain roads we blow our hooters.” I looked at Bill and he looked at me and we started laughing. Bill explained what “hooters” are in the United States but here they call their car horns “hooters”.
First he took us to the Longwood House. It was a gorgeous home amidst breathtaking flower gardens! Even though the entire island is owned by the United Kingdom, the Longwood House and surrounding gardens were sold to France and the French flag flies on the property.
This mansion was the final residence of Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte. He died in the home and was buried not far from here, although his body was later exhumed and moved to Paris.
