One of the employees drove us and our 2,100 license plates back to the ship in a large government vehicle so we wouldn't have to struggle with them on public transportation (would have been impossible) or in cabs.

Once all the boxes were stored in our cabin we set out again to see the island. It is as lovely as we remembered it – very clean and perfect for tourists.

We took a water taxi to the cute little beach town and looked for the restaurant we enjoyed so much when we were here in 2009 but it had been sold and turned into another restaurant, also with patio dining. We asked people from the ship eating there how the food was and they all gave it a thumbs down and said they wish they had picked another restaurant so we decided this was not where we wanted to eat. Disappointing – I was really looking forward to the giant pieces of fried conch like we had the last time we were here. Even then, it wasn't on the menu - the owner made it special for me.

While walking across from the beach trying to find an interesting restaurant we noticed a pretty stone called a Larimar in several of the shops and decided to see if we could find a pendant setting for me that we both liked. It was a splurge but we worked hard together arranging the license plate deal this morning so Bill wanted me to have the jewelry. It wasn't difficult to find a pendant we both loved – the one we picked was in a stunning setting and the pastel green stone color was really vibrant! And of course, Bill couldn't buy the pendant for me without matching earrings. He gets that.

After sharing an order of coconut shrimp at a little restaurant that was open to the beach, we walked back to the dock to catch the water taxi back to the port area. Since we were early we had time to do a little more shopping at the port area near the ship.

I wasn't really looking for another t-shirt for this cruise but we found a cute tie-died St. Maarten t-shirt so Bill bought it for me.

We finished our visit to Maarten with a delicious pina-colada smoothie! What a perfect way to end the day on this pretty island.

When it was time to return to the ship we really hated walking back up the gangway for the last time on this cruise.
