I'm sure there is a great story about the blow up dolls. How cool you got a photo of your ship from the fort. I love when I can get a photo of it from a place we visited.
Saturday, August 2, 2014 – We had no idea what we wanted to do today in Lerwick in the Shetland Islands (which is part of Scotland). I wanted to see a Shetland pony, since that what the island is most famous for”.
After getting off the ship's tender we explored the little town. There was an old fort to check out although there wasn't much to Fort Charlotte. We walked around the entire fort in less than 10 minutes. At least it was free! --- I loved the old buildings near the port. The photo on the left shows a beautiful old brick building. The old building in the back has a window (blocked by the lower building in front) that indicates that it could be a church or cathedral. However, the clock tower makes me think it could be a town hall or public building. --- Then it was time to get adventurous. We caught a city bus to Scalloway which is where the closest castle is located. After a 20 minute bus ride, we were a few blocks from the castle and then we walked 10 minutes to get to the castle grounds.
As we were walking we passed a church where a wedding was to be held later in the afternoon. We were amused by the blow-up dolls representing the bride and groom!
