As my sister and I were exploring Saint Michael's cemetery I came upon this tree stump that was left in the middle of what looked like a family plot, you could tell the tree had been cut down for some time.

I could not imagine why they cut the tree down in the first place as it looked to be an old growth oak.

Then I walked around the stump and found the headstone.

It seems as though this has happened to several plots where burials were made close to small trees and over the centuries the trees have grown around headstones.

Conservationist will not remove the headstone or cut down a tree but Mother Nature is not so kind. This tree was severely damaged during a hurricane and was cut as much as possible. They are letting the rest rot and as the headstone falls out it will be reset over the site.

Unfortunately vandals are even less kind that nature and have damaged or destroyed many of the old gravesites. Now the cemetery to better protected and watched and is the site of constant conservation.

I used several older items on this one with newly purchased papers.
I applied white crackle texture paste to one stencil and forgot how easily it would leach under the mask, I need to use a lighter hand next time!!
