Along with the toys my dad found while cleaning out the basement, there was a bank envelope of change. This brought back some very happy memories of my grandparents who, while comfortable and owned their own home, lived on a very tight budget - relying on their large garden for all their vegetables (canning was summer sport at their house), baking their own bread, etc. Anyway, in between our visits to their house, my grandma would save her pin money and put them in golden-brown bank envelopes, which then be tucked under my pillow - sometimes with a candy bar. Later, I learned that my grandma used to do the same thing for my dadsaving and saving to help pay for his first year of college. Saving like this was not easy for them and this is just another memory of how wonderful her soul was. This particular envelope was filled with half dollars and Susan B. Anthony dollar coins.
