Designer Tip: Use some of the decorative stitches on your sewing machine, rather than the standard straight stitch and zig-zag. I stitched a border that resembles little snowflakes (I use an inexpensive Brother sewing machine from Walmart).
Also, make sure there isn't any adhesive under the paper you are sewing on or it will gum up your needle. I just place mine a little off to the side of where I'm sewing.
