Altered CDs
Submitted by: IcePanthress
Altering CD's is a new technique being used by many scrapbookers and crafters. And why throw out all those cd's that you get in the mail when you can use them to make something fantastic! You can use them in your scrapbook, make ornaments out of them, or even door hangers! It would be a fun craft for your kids and grandchildren too!

So you have these cd's that you get in the mail, but now what? Well there are many different ways to decorate these items! You can paint your cd with acrylic paint, and what a variety of colors you can have with just that. You can cover them with papers or fabric. Add any type of embellishments to them, buttons, charms, micro beads, and more. Just use your double-sided tape to apply them. How about stamping them? You can take a sponge or cotton ball and dab different colored inks onto them. You can emboss them with a variety of embossing powders and even cover them with clear embossing powder when you are completed. If you do heat embossing, make sure you use a pair of pliers to hold your cd to avoid injury. They can get quite warm!

Another thing that adds spunk to your creation is adding beads, fiber, or other item around the edge of the cd. This really adds a nice line and adds more detail to your item!

You may want to hang your cd or hang items from your cd. If you are wanting to do this, before you begin you should take a drill and drill your holes. Placing holes at the bottom will allow you to hang beads or fiber from you cd. Its a good idea to punch your holes from the item that you cover your cd with after you have adhered it to the cd. This will help you avoid misaligned holes.

If you are covering your cd with paper, just lay your cd on your paper and draw around it. When you cut your circle, just cut inside the line so you do not have paper hanging over the edges of your cd. Don't forget to draw your inside circle as well, but instead of cutting inside your line, draw to the outside of this circle. A circle cutter can be very handy for cutting your circles. Now you can adhere your paper to your cd.

Get creative.. there are so many mediums you can use!
