Beware when buying used cartridges

I was looking on the online classifieds here called kijiji and someone was selling her cartridges that she loaded on a gypsy. She was being honest about loading them but this means someone buying them would not be able to do the same and for $45 I would want to. Her ad doesn't mention that they can't be used on another gypsy so people need to beware.

Yep, it's a problem,,,,i always make sure that I get new in box SEALED carts,,,,,now if you never want to have a gypsy, you can get some good deals, but I certainly wouldn't call 45 bucks a good deal!

Well in her defense if she said they were loaded to one gypsy, she probably found no need to say they can't be loaded to another. I also would assume that anyone buying a gypsy would already know they can't be loaded onto more than 1.

However, $45 is a bit much for a used cart, especially one that's already loaded to a gypsy.

I never buy used. I figure if I can't get it for $20.00 brand new, Then I don't need it!!

I don't think the OP was questioning the woman's honesty, so much as just letting US know that if it's already been loaded, you can't load it again,,,,,which you might not know if you don't own one, but if hope to some day, then it could be a problem for you.

$45 is ALOT less than half of what we pay in Canada... At Ms they are $119 new and even the lites at WM are $50.

If I found a brand new cart for $45 I would have no problem buying it... sadly for my bank account.

THAT'S for a USED cart without the ability to load it into a gypsy, Ash,,,,,,

and GIRL, have you tried EBAY?? i know the shipping to canada would be more, but I'd think it would be worth it to save that kind of money!

This weekend my husband is golfing...and I think I'll be doing some damage on eBay in the cart department! There are so many awesome ones I want! The Home Decor and More cart has a beautiful dancer on it that I NEEEEEEEEEEEED!

Well, I only have 4 carts because they are so expensive around here. $80 for ONE cart is just not ok, which is what they are at the M's here. So if I can get like 4 carts for $80...Oh Holly, that would be magical! LOL

I own 12,,,,but TRUST ME, I wouldn't own 12 if they cost 80 bucks!!

I get mine at ebay and average $25. I have too many.

I've spent as much as 22.50 and as little as 11 bucks for carts on EBAY,,,,

I have 126 carts and I've never paid over $25.00 for one. I just got October 31st at HL the other day for $12.99. I always tell myself that I need every cartridge that comes out, but I'm starting to realize that I shouldn't do that...there are so many that I've never used once. And I've noticed the ones that I do use, have the same images on several carts.

just a thought, Do you know how much money you would have saved it you all got something like a wishblade.. Think about it , you can turn any jpg or true type font in to a cut flie.

I have a silhouette and love it, we are getting MIL an expression for christmas (which is how I found the ad). She is not great on a computer at all so she needs something easy to use. I have friends with the cricut and when she saw one this weekend she decided she wanted one. This is after insisting she didn't want one for years. All of us are going in on it, so I am hoping to get a good deal on ebay or black friday (I have to have it shipped here though)

so technically is reselling a cartridge that you downloaded to a gypsy considered a wrong thing? (2 users but vendor only got money from 1) Illegal? Will the Cricuit police come a-knockin'? Does Provocraft say you can't resell your cartridges if you have put them on a gypsy?

Is buying or selling a cartridge that has been loaded on a gypsy..."sure it's wrong, but everyone does it, and I can get away with it, so I look the other way too" thing?

So did Provocraft made a big mistake with their Gypsy? Lost revenue as everyone sells off their cartridges to people who don't have a Gypsy. almost doesn't seem fair. ...NOT! They charge way too much for cartridges.

But this does remind me of computer software. In the early days everyone would share software even though you weren't suppose to. But when just about every computer got internet access, you could no longer share most softwares. You just get stopped when trying to use the same licensed software multiple times.

Actually, a lot of us have software that allows us to do this with our Cricuts (Sure Cuts A Lot & Make The Cut). But what the carts allow us all is portability. If I need a circle cut, I don't need to hook up my computer to the machine to get one. And, sometime the ease of use of some of the cartridges is better than having to spend the time to search for a specific image and/or create it. Also, the Cricut Expression allows a much larger cutting surface (up to 12" across versus 8" on the Wishblade).

I love the 12x12 inch mat and let me also throw in the 12x24 mat. I use that, too. Portability is important to me, as well. My computer and die cutter will not coexist in this house. I'm also not one to by a ton of carts. I have a few that are versatile and a Gypsy and I can cut 'til the cows come home.

So, to answer the original question: No, I'm not ignorant with my money. I knew what I wanted and I knew how it would work for me. Shockalockaboom.

If a cart could be downloaded numerous times, people would share, sell etc,,,,I am sure they considered the possibility that people would download the cart and then sell it, but I am also sure that the increased revenue from selling gypsies far outweighed this slight loss of money. They've pretty much limited the number of people one cart can benefit,,,,without the single download glitch, one cart could benefit unlimited numbers of people.

I plan on downloading my own carts and then SWAPPING carts with someone else who's downloaded THEIR carts,,,,i won't be able to use them with the gypsy, but it will still give me extra carts to use.

Yep, i don't like those computer type machines,,,i am not very computer savvy, and a lot of the free files i've seen are just really simplistic and not something I'd use,,,,i love the cricut images, and i am careful to only buy carts that I will use a ton. Some people love the SCAL for cricut and the wishblade, etc,,,,and that's wonderful. But it's just not for me.

I have 1 cartridge & SCAL2 and have my cricut and computer all set up & ready to go. I consider myself pretty computer savvy, have over 1,500 fonts and can covert images to SCALs easily. But you know what? 9 times our of 10 I just use that 1 cartridge over & over again.
Why, because it is just easier...

IMHO, once they are OPENED, they are no longer "brand new",,,,I don't care if you didn't use it a single TIME,,,,,,

you can say,,,,"Opened cart, never USED."

but that doesn't make it new,,,,,ESPECIALLY if it's been uploaded to a gypsy!
