Well, literally it means stealing, but, everyone knows that scraplifting is highly personalized and doesn't need to be credited most of the time.
It's only stealing if you don't get permission first. Most people are flattered to be asked if you can copy their design or idea.
I'm on the DT of a game blog called Scrap Whispers which is all about lifting. We have 6 teams and every team starts with the same LO. Each team member lifts the LO they are given and they pass their own onto the next person etc. It's all kept secret until the Big Reveal at the end. It's really fun to see how the design changes. We've just finished one game, and the Big Reveal is happening on the blog right now.
