Room size

I have a room which is 12' x' 6'. It's cramped, but it's mine and I'm very happy there.

it doesn't matter the size of your craft area ... it is either too small, or soon will be too small.

I am trying to negotiate taking over our living room which is 13' X 25'. She is ignoring me.

My room is shaped like Nevada. The two short walls are 8 feet. The long wall is 12 feet. The angled wall is under five feet and the point is chopped off (for the doors). I've utilized a lot of space by using the KALLAX cubbies from Ikea (I have a vertical 2x4 and 4x4 unit side by side. Then I put a 2x2 over the 2x4 and a horizontal 2x4 over the 4x4). There's about 7-8" of clearance at the ceiling. I have shelves on the angled wall for other crafting stuff, cabinets and shelves on the long wall. It's organized, but I still wish for more WORK space. I like to spread out, but can't because there isn't room for a large table.

I will go measure my space but in april 2015 I am moving into my own apt without the bf and I will use my dining room as my craft area!! hold on ....

i am a long time scrapper...and now i must relinquish my craft room to my young niece for a bedroom...which means all my stuff (and there is a LOT of it) now must move to my bedroom. It's a tough job. i could also use the whole livingroom as we really do not use it --- but peace & quiet would be an issue for me i think.

That being said, any ideas you guys have will be appreciated!

I have a 10 X 16 tuff shed that we had built in our backyard, if you go to my gallery you can see photos. I bought cabinets on craigslist and had them custom fit and installed. It's the perfect size room and my little hideaway!! I love it!! Good luck with your space.

I dont really have a craft room anymore i do my work in the evenings on a board on my lap and i am just about to decorate my bedroom which has a cupboard which is approx 4ft x 4ft , which i am going to put shelfs in , and just found something usefull that will hang on the door to hold things ,

I just went to measure my craft room and it's about 11 x 15. Not small but not huge. I'm still planning my space and being that my scrapbooking things are in storage in Ohio and I'm in South Carolina, I've got the opportunity to set it up just the way I want it.
Have fun with your new room! I know I will. My things will be down here in a few weeks and I've been busy getting ready.

i know the feeling of being in the main family room.....that's where i am now. i feel exposed bcz people are always looking at my things and making comments about ALL the stuff i have. my new room is getting painted today!!!! yippee. the size is 8 x 12 (which is the amount of space i'm in in the family room) and i am taking your advice to store up even though i'm only 5'4". one more week to work and i'll be moving in during spring break. i'll post pix.

I just have a corner, which is stuffed almost from floor to ceiling. I have a desk with a drawer unit under one side and boxes of stuff under the other. There is just space for my knees underneath. I also have the bottom two shelves in the big bookcase for my albums, and my 3 boxes of paper live on the floor in front of the bookcase. If I had to measure it, I would say it was about 5'x4' with an extra 4' x 2 of bookcase shelf space.

It all depends on how you work though, and how much stuff you have. I like to have everything visible otherwise I forget I have it. Vertical storage is my best friend! I usually work with all the drawers of that unit open, and I generally have bruises all over my left leg from bumping into them!

If you prefer a clean, clutter-free space, you might want to box everything in. If you have lots of tools like cutting machines, you would want a lot more working surface than I have.

My "room" is in the main family room. I have a 5' 3-shelf storage shelf, 5 rolling carts (which originally come with 4 drawers, 2 small and 2 large, but you can break them apart and reassemble them however you want--Thank you Staples!), 1 5-gallon tote, 2 10-gallon tote, 2 18-gallon Rubbermaid tote, and one huge 30-gallon tote AND one 4' X 2' table (with no chair, so I have to move over one of the media center chairs). And it's spread out all over the place (some under the TV area, some between computer stations or next to computer stations...but none right next to each other).

Crafting in my life has to be planned waaaay in advance. I am literally trying to craft with my family watching movies or using their computers or playing with the kids right there. I'm usually ignored, which is nice, but I don't have a way to drown out their sound, which kinda stinks.

If I were to add it all up, I think it would occupy a 10'X10' room (I'm guesstimating here; I could be totally off). I know that since I'm living with my parents, I'm lucky to have the space I have (and it's more disorganized than I and they would like).

But my point was not to complain. It was to state that whatever space you're allowed, maximize it by organizing it! Use the wall space and every corner of space efficiently. If you don't use a certain item that much, stuff it in a tote (opaque or clear) and stack them in a corner or a closet.

I have a question for everyone who has a small craft space. Approximately what size is your area? I am about to get an enclosed space/room, but I'd like to know what size others are as I plan out the layout.
