Archival sprays--Will they stop a newspaper from further yellowing?

You could also take a photo of the article and use the photo in your layout. I did that for a magazine story. This was a good solution for me because it was a large-format magazine and the article filled a whole page. Too big to scrapbook!

Color copy it onto acid-free paper. It looks marvelous and real that way and will last longer than newsprint.

news paper also has lignin in it which will also cause the paper to yellow. That is why scrapbook paper says acid and lignin free.

Have you done a scrapbook layout about him? & his show & your love for him? Some people here have been working on childhood memory albums where they do a pg or 2 on a random childhood memory. I did a few in my gallery. I did one for my dh too. IT was titled Plunk your magic twanger froggie about one of his fav shows in the 50s. I googled the item or person I was wasnting to do. Many sites or pics would come up. I saved those pics & had them developoed & used them on the layouts. I also got item pics on ebay too. I just searched 1950s toys for example. I did one on trading stamps, my Barbie dolls, go go boots, my kissy doll. People are doing 12x12 or 6x6 or any size. Some are just writing the name only & others are writing a bit of history or writing their memories of it. ~Kathie~ has lots in her gallery.
The cool thing is you don't have to have pics ion your stash, just get them online.

Hi, I agree- just color copy it & store it in case the orginal gets too bad. I would frame the original & enjoy it especially since you would have a copy filed. I used to buy Archival Mist yrs ago & used it a bit. Some people on a message board yrs ago said their items turned color yrs later (from the spray) You need to respray every so many yrs.

The spray will slow down the yellowing but it will not stop the process. Newspaper is highly acidic...that is why it yellows so fast. If you want to display it, I would reccomend making a photo copy on acid free paper before you do anything that way you preserve the material. Then if something happens to it, you have the copy.

This is also what we tell our customers at the scrapbook store where I work. Hope it helps.

I found an old 1950 article about Roy Rogers (who was one of my childhood idols.) It is yellowing, but not in horrible shape. I'd like to frame it. If I spray it with one of those sprays, will it keep it from getting worse?
