Redo old albums?

I was just looking through my albums and when I started scrapbooking 10 years ago I made my daughters 1st album. It does not reflect the way I scrapbook now. I actually don't like the way it looks at all, but it was my 1st attempt. I was wondering if anyone feels like this and if you do have you redone your old albums? I know that my daughter will treasure them no matter what

I am redoing my wedding album. Mostly because when I started scrapping I was scrapping in 8 x11 1/2 and now I scrap in 12 x 12 and really like that better. I reprinted all the pictures that I had in the original book because I actually want to keep the original pages. It's kind of fun to look at how my style has changed in the 4 years that I've been scrapping.

I also look back at my old albums but I don't redo them because I like to see how far I've come, and to see the different "styles" or phases that my scrapbooking has gone through. It's like looking at pics. of when you are younger and wondering what was going on with your clothes or hair. They make me giggle.

I'm currently redoing one. But I am keeping the old pages- they make my current pages look better!

Thanks for your responses! I think that I will leave them as is. Like Sovip said It is nice to see how far my scrapbooking has come!

My first real album was my wedding album so you can imagine how much that makes me gasp! I'm leaving it though even though it looks nothing like what I do today. I figure in another 5 years my style will change again and I simply don't have the time to redo everything.

I haven't been scrappin long, but boy, when I look at my first album, have I improved! The only ones I redone were the ones I was really unhappy with or wasn't acid/ligin free. I look at them like I would my son's kindergarten papers!lol

I highly recommend NOT re-doing album just because your styles have changed. If you do, you'll be changing everything out about every 10 years or so if not sooner.

I went back and re-did my very first album because my goal back then was to get pix into albums, no embellies, no matting, no anything else but journaling.

Why the panic? I really thought I was losing my memory. Seriously, I did. Later I learned it was due to extreme stress, physical pain and pain meds, and prescription allergy meds. Yes, allergy meds are now documented to cause memory problems.

Later I went back and rescrapped these pages. The aboved became 2 or 3 separate pages.

Also it looks like I've no choice but redo some other early albums. For these albums I used glue sticks. They were sb quality but now everything is coming undone from the bg. Fortunately, everything is in page protectors so it's just a matter of making the time to redo these. Most will get matting and additional embellies but not major redos.

I agree with Sarah. If you redo your old albums you'll always be scrapping the same few albums over and over because styles and trends change! I think it takes a little while to appreciate your older work because it's so different from the work you produce today but that doesn't mean it wasn't made with love!

I think you hit the nail on the head when you said your child will love the albums just the way they are.

It's just like clothing style. No matter how spiffy you think your hair and clothes are today, 10 years from now, when you look back at old photos, you always think, I look goofy!

It would be a vicious cycle to try to keep all of our albums remodeled to current style and trends. Can you imagine the cost???

I very seldom use original photos in my lo. I scan and print them so sometimes I redo a photo because I think I can do it better. Mostly I keep the old ones too. I just posted one of my first lo (my son 1, 2 3) to illustrate my progress or lack thereof. Sometimes a fresh approach to an old lo is kind of fun, but I do concentrate on new pics.

I eased in scrapbooking over several years and haven't really gotten into it until just recently so I am really a beginner.

It seems that my earlier stuff was more about buying pre-made cut-outs, stickers, and going through it pretty fast. But...back then I didn't have time to be creative! That was who I was then...Now, I'm ready to open myself up and learn in order to get better.

Even though my earlier attempts weren't very good (and they're still not that good LOL!), I still LOVE looking at them. Some people don't scrapbook at all and keep all their photos in boxes...

I guess if you really wanted to re-do them, I don't see anything wrong with it.

Oh my Scrap4brains, your earlier attempts are a lot better than what I can do now!!!

I have redone all my older first albums, but mostly because I way overcropped all my picture and did those goofy "silouettes" (I am sure that is spelled wrong) ...I reordered pictures and redid those....but, I say only redo if you are up to date on current stuff...there is no sense in getting behind to do something again.

That is one of the advantages I can see for digital scrappers...you can redo over and over and over again for free.

I am in the process of re-doing my wedding album. It was the 1st pictures I scrapped. At the time I didn't think to make a copy of the pics. I had cropped lots of hearts and circles with my originals. If only I knew then what I know now, i would have made copies. Luckly I still have a few of the negatives, but there are some of the pics I don't have copies or negatives for that I have ruined.

My style is forever changing, but this will be the only book I re-do. I know now that a wedding ablum should be timeless, not in style. Oh well, live and learn. I may put the old pages in the back with a note about the whole live and learn thing...

I don't think I will redo any of my albums. Of course, I'm not sure that my style has grown enough to merit any redoing. But I think the point of scrapbooking (for me) is to capture my history... and that includes the way I chose to record it a particular time. If that makes any sense.

That being said, there a couple of my LO's that no one is ever going to be able to look at again.
