paper storage idea

I'm not that happy with my paper storage ... it's stored in containers that I always have to pull out and sift through. I found one of these at work today and I was wondering what you all thought of it?

If you have the table/desk top space for it. You'll probably still want to use some sort of folders to protect your pagers.

Are you using this for 8.5x11 papers or 12x12 papers?

I'm with you. I'd really like to find some good paper storage. And all other kind of storage.

I'm afraid that if you stored paper in the slots, the paper would eventually bend over. Maybe it would be OK if you stored the paper inside two pieces of cardboard for each slot.

Your paper is going to flop around in that kind of holder. I have the Target wire cubes and you put them together to make storage that lays flat when you put it together. A bunch of us on here use Cropper Hopper vertical storage. They are on sale alot at the major chains and you can use Coupons . Love the vertical storage. HTH

I have one, that I use to store my current projects, in progress stuff! I use some Cropper Hopper holders! Works great and I love it!

It's 12x12 that I'm storing ... we don't have a Target up here! But maybe it's worth a trip to the States ...

I didn't like the wire cubes for paper storage. They got dusty in those plus they're really a waste of space unless you store paper stacks from the same brand or all of once color cardstock. Since mine were most loose pp in there, I'd damage the papers getting them in and out of the slots. But I'm sure that was due to my carelessness/rush at times.

Rolling File Carts

One cart for 8.5x11 papers and the other one for 12x12. I normally keep brand stacks together either in a folder or a drawer. If the papers are predominantly a color, they'll go in that color folder. Same for cardstock. Only white and black card stocks have their own folder in my system.

I can pull out a folder, and go through it while not damaging the papers in the process.

I love the Cropper Hopper vertical storage system with dividers. I have all my patterned paper in those according to manufacturer, and then a few tabs are just catagories like "cats" and "military". I love them!! I will try and take a pic and put it in my gallery.

I am a huge fan of the Iris brand paper holders. I have two-one for cardstock, and one for patterned paper , but I am needing more. LOL

I just have to chime in on the Cropper Hopper vertical storage - I LOVE MINE!!
the iris cases ARE very nice, and I actually have two of the carts, but I use that for other things than paper, like ink pads & stamps - IMO that's probably basically the same as what you have, if you have paper in there, you still have to lift the whole stack to get to the bottom, which I gather you are trying to avoid - that's the wonderful thing about the vertical, is that you can kinda "fan through" the papers to see what you have

I dont have a huge stash of paper but I store it in 12x12 accordian folders. I dont really have a set scrap room so these work the best for me. I have one for cardstock and one for patterned paper .

I took the door off the closet in my room and a neighbor built these Pull Out shelves. they are on gliders like the shelves for kitchen cabinates...each one has two rows of containers on it.

I don't understand the Cropper Hopper vertical storage. Would someone please tell me what keeps the paper from sliding down or bending over?

I have one of those Cropper Hopper vertical storage things and I use it for my cardstock. I don't have the problem of my papers sliding or bending over because it's pretty full. I guess that might be a problem if you only had a few papers in there...not sure. As for all my patterned paper s which I have lots of, but as I'm seeing here...not as much as other ppl do! LOL I have a milk crate type thing that I got at Wal Mart for like $4. It just happened to be 12" wide and it's about 18" long so I can fit almost all my papers in there. I guess since it's not covered, the possibility of it getting dusty is there, but that doesn't worry me too much. I love the accessibility of it because like someone said, I can "file" through my papers and see what I need and just pull it out!

I use the cases mentioned earlier. I like that the case is hard so the paper won't get bent. I also like them because I don't have to worry about the papers getting dusty. (In case I don't use them fast enough. ) I sort first by cardstock and patterned paper and then I sort by style/theme and brand. I am highly jealous of that closet but I don't think I could get my DH to agree to that.

Cropper Hopper here 2. Its the best Ive used. Didnt like accord files....ppr got bent...others just didnt work out

Iuse a milk crate that I got from work when i was working. they used to deliver milk in them for us. they was just going to throw them away,so i brought them home with me everyone i could m hands on. thats what my 12x12 is in.

Most of mine are too full for this to be a problem. I did buy several Vertical Storage Value Packs (which are the paper holder, the dividers and a couple of paper pouches). I now use the pouches for large scraps, but you can also use them to hold smaller quantities of paper so they don't fall over.

Love the Cropper Hopper also...all my paper is in them and sit in my wire cubes

i used to use the crop hoppers too but i got too much paper and quickly grew out of it. I can store more vertically than horizonitally given my space as well.

recently, i purchased the 12X12 sterilite drawers. they sell them at WM and HL. There are three drawers per set and I have 3 sets..need to get one more. Anyways, I have each drawer that has a color..and they all stack on top of each other so it fits perfectly in my closet. They are 12x12 size so they perfectly fit paper. Good luck on trying tyo find a storage solution that works for you..i know i have tried many!!

i have the Cropper Hopper storage too, and i really love it. but i was running out of room because i am a paper addict! so, i got the wire shelf from joanns with a coupon, and i have them divided by color for cs, and my pp is done some by theme, others by company. i keep some of them in the paper holders that fit in the Cropper Hopper cases, and also use the dividers that come with the Cropper Hopper to put on the bottom of a stack in the wire shelf, so i have a way to pull them out. so i use both, and i like it. i haven't scrapped too much since i got my wire shelf organized, so i guess time will tell if i'm going to love it or not. good luck with your decision!

if you want to use that gradual wire system you posted, why not use the 1/2 in (or it may be 1inch) Cropper Hopper mini folder thingies that most people put in the verticle paper holders.... that way you can divide the main color combo's and your paper won't bend I may just have to do this myself! Thanks!!

I love the vertical Cropper Hopper s. I find it easier to search for a "certain" sheet of paper if it's vertical.

onthe left is 3 larger ones and the one, has pockets & pouches inside - on the right are LOTS of the 50 sheet ones

I absolutely love my Cropper Hopper vertical storage. It has been the best thing for me.

I've been looking at a good way to store paper, and I found a "2-Tier Paper Storage Cube System with Casters and Dust Cover - Black" on target. It looks like it'll work well, and it's relatively cheap. Anyone have this?

I know that paper wishes carries the rolling file cabinet for 12x12 paper and the hanging file folders. They call it the Rolling Rack.

After seeing your post, I went out and looked for it and bought it!! I think it should work well. I have the Cropper Hopper vertical too, but things are so crowded in there and I think with this new wire storage from target, I can organize a little better. Plus, I really like the idea of a dust cover. I also thought that if I don't like it for my paper, storage is storage and I can find something else to use it for. I was surprised at how reasonable it was priced.

You can buy 12x12 hangin folders at most Joanne's Michaels/ac moore/hobby lobby, and most lss.... you can always order them on line here at scrapook.com

When you buy premade 12x12 hanging folder you may end up having to use that brand's system in order to use the folders.

I already had alot of regular and legal sized folders. It takes 3 to make 2 12x12 folders. I wish I could find the site that I used to make mine from.

Basically you cut one folder right in the middle where it's folded in half. The other two you cut where the folder has the metal hanger, where the paper is attached to itself.

Take the half folder and one of the other folders and overlap where they've been cut by an inch or so. I then used clear packing tape on both sided, then folded the hangers together to get a new middle.

When using regular hangers there's barely enough room for 12x12 papers so it's better to use the legal sized papers.

Even with the 3 to 2 ratio it comes out cheaper than buying premade folders that I may or may not be able to find at a later date. The guides on my carts are adjustable to handle either size.

I still see these carts at Office Depot and Staples.

Didn't even pay attention to that Just saw that it was 12" wide. I guess you could use it on your desk top and put your Pages in Progress in them.

This is what I'm in the process of doing myself...the biggest drawback is cost. The pouches are 6.65 each...multiply that by 30 and well, it's simply out of my price range to buy them all at once. Here's my paper storage currently:

You could do small combo groups and leave the 'extras' in the regular verticles and keep them tucked away in cabinets... just refill your mini pockets as needed

Thank you every one who explained the Cropper Hopper system to me. I didn't know about the pouches. It now makes a lot more sense!

I know you have explained this a few times, but I am still a little confused.
You wrote: "Basically you cut one folder right in the middle where it's folded in half." You talking about where the bottom of the pocket is, right? If you're using legal size folders, you would now have 2 sheets that are approx. 8.5 by 14, each sheet still has the metal hanger attached.

"The other two you cut where the folder has the metal hanger, where the paper is attached to itself." So, you are removing the metal hangers from 2 hanging folders and attaching the remaining pockets to the first folder? Again, if you're using legal size folders, you now would have a folder that is 14" long, and at least 12 inches deep, depending on where you attach the new pocket?

If you're using legal size folders, do you only need 2 folders to make 1 new folder? If you're using letter size, how do you increase the length from 11 to 12? Is this why you would need 3 folders to make 1?

I'm sorry, this is just really difficult for me to visualize for some reason. Could you post a pic in your gallery of just a folder?

When I used the hanging folder system befor my shelves, I made the large folders out of 1 legal size hanging folder slit across the bottom and one legal size file taped to the hanging folder....I taped it both inside and outside to make it stronger.ALOT cheaper than the ones you can buy for 12x12
