So...odd legal question that I am curious if anyone knows the answer to... I am still working on the blog. Once blog is set up, I want to draw more traffic to it. I considered doing a give away for a scrappy item.

If I advertise it as what I am giving away specifically and yet have no affiliation with that company at all, is that probably an issue?

I want to eventually get a store on ETSY so drawing people to my blog... is good... However, I am also trying to keep things as legal/ethical as I can. (stuff like following angel policies and such really closely).

Unless you legally represent that company, I think all you can say is, "I have a RAK." or "I will sent a prize worth $XX to the winner."
But I am not sure.

I hinted at it! It is in retail. I will pm more and I know some ladies here know what company it is. HOWEVER, as much as I LOVE that company... I do NOT want to have my actual job essentially public due to privacy stuff. So I will talk about the job and also likely about the company, but try not to link them so people know I work for "fill in job name here".

It is just an online safety thing... I have enough of my geographic location known that it wouldn't take many details for people to find me at work AND I have had issues with creepy people in my life. KWIM?

I don't think that's an issue since I see people giving away things all the time in their blogs. Your best bet is to check with a lawyer, but I think the issue would be misrepresenting why you're giving things away and any company affiliation you might have (which you already said you didn't have any).

Ok, I won't say rak...but similar (not that it matters, but blog RAK's annoy me... rak stands for RANDOM act of kindness...come leave comments on my blog is not RANDOM... ). I have this thing about RAKs actually being... random acts of kindness...

there is no way I could work full time overnights. If I was going to work full time overnights, I would go work for John's company where I would be making a lot more money than Kohls pays. (and if I worked for the company, we'd put the condo on the market/rent it out and move closer to the distribution center to save on costs).

I tend to be a night person so I thought working nights would work for me. I took a job at a retail store before and worked essentially one night. Oi...it was icky. The company was icky. I wasn't worried about ME personally working nights, I am sure I would get used to it. However, I talked to a teen that worked there. He was switching to working days because he had fallen a sleep at the wheel while driving home (um, teen...so this means he went to school all day and then was working all nights...I didn't know that was legal even...not sure it is). Anyway, I was glad to hear he was switching, but thought it was really scary to hear that he had that happen.

They actually both KNOW! I know Shirley does... we went to breakfast the morning I turned in the app.

I had a super creepy neighbor that would read about me here though... Ugg.. I also try to keep my name off the internet and detals like names of where I work because some employers will google names and such. I don't really want random people in my life to find my place here...it is cool for family and friends, but not so much just anyone. I vent a lot here.

I use to work overnights during certain times of the year when I worked for Target. Sometimes I thought it was better than working at 4 in the morning. Pricing is easier to do when no one is around (so is putting up the add use to do that during the day when I worked at K-mart), setting planograms is easier to do at night as well (that can get messy).

When did this happen?

Thursday. I came home Tuesday to a message on the machine from Kohls offering me the ad set position that I applied for back in May and interviewd for two weeks ago. I didn't get details until Thursday, wasn't real thrilled with some of the details (was told one shift during the interview, the shift is actually something else altogether, etc) so I asked to call her on Monday to let her know what I've decided. John doesn't care, he wants me to be happy and income is secondary for him right now. Since I'm freaking out about my bank balance, I'm going to take the job because between Kohl's one night a week and tutoring and the possibility of being the school crossing guard (and I will find out more about that on Monday, too) I will be bringing home the same amount of money less daycare fees that I did when I worked for Ritz. Extra Kohls shifts and any CM money would be gravy at that point.

Exactly what she did this morning when John and I both overslept until practically noon: she got her own breakfast, watched TV and played quietly in her room without making a monster mess. It's mostly going to be Saturday nights into Sunday mornings, so for the most part John will be home to do stuff with her while I sleep.

Depending on his age, it was a severe labor law violation. Around here, if you're under 15, you can't work past a certain time and are very limited in the number of hours you work. You can also not work while school is in session unless you're in a work study program. Up until 16, you can work later and more hours, but not that much more. 18 is when you can work all you want without limitations on when your shifts begin and end.

I know he definitely was NOT 18... I can't remember how old he was. I think actually was only 16 so he hadn't been driving long either...

I am not certain of labor laws there, but I know in the Phx area you are not allowed to work after midnight as a teen. I worked for a retail store until Midnight then and one night they held us till 2am! I know that several teens mentioned that to the manager that night because of it (that company seemed to not care...I would not work for them again...actually either company that is in reference to teenage labor stuff unless I really had to).

The store I will be working for actually generally doesn't hire anyone under 18 as a rule.

I didn't get details until Thursday, wasn't real thrilled with some of the details (was told one shift during the interview, the shift is actually something else altogether, etc) so I asked to call her on Monday to let her know what I've decided. John doesn't care, he wants me to be happy and income is secondary for him right now. Since I'm freaking out about my bank balance, I'm going to take the job because between Kohl's one night a week and tutoring and the possibility of being the school crossing guard (and I will find out more about that on Monday, too) I will be bringing home the same amount of money less daycare fees that I did when I worked for Ritz. Extra Kohls shifts and any CM money would be gravy at that point.

Exactly what she did this morning when John and I both overslept until practically noon: she got her own breakfast, watched TV and played quietly in her room without making a monster mess. It's mostly going to be Saturday nights into Sunday mornings, so for the most part John will be home to do stuff with her while I sleep.

That sounds like what we're going to be doing once Kim works and I have to work my every-third-weekends. Num-Num will get to be the chief kid-watcher and put the kid to bed. Hehehehehe.

We had Friday night pizza tonight since we had picnic food last night for supper. Brian is back to working 6 days a week all nights except Sunday when he works 11-5. Usually works, 2,3, or 4 to close which is usually around 1 or later.

I've managed to convert one episode. I just tried to batch convert and quicktime can't read them, so I guess I'll have to do it one at a time. I haven't imported them into iTunes yet because I already have my test episode in there as a purchase. I'm now trying with an episode I haven't bought from iTunes. Hopefully it will work.

Okay, I have skimmed and caught up. Had a lovely few hours to myself today.

Got my new phone. Ended up with a Nokia 6555 (I think, I can't remember numbers too well). Liz-Moxie was right, if you're in the middle of a contract you cannot get the iPhone 3G for $199. BTW, I never doubted her on that, I just stated what Steve Jobs had said at the WWDC (World Wide Developers' Conference) earlier this year. I would've had to plunk down $399 for it today, which I just did NOT want to do. However, I am due to sign a new contract in April, and I will be able to go in then, sign a new contract and get the iPhone for $199. So I'm going to wait and just do that.

Went to Bath & Body Works for more sanitizer. In the excitement of finding Freesia the last time I went, I forgot about sanitizer. THEN I was craving a frappuccino, and since I didn't have any kids to bug me for one of their own (they do NOT make them in decaf) I got one and ohhhhh was it good. I don't get those very often.

Went to M's, did not find anything interesting I liked. I wasn't sure if I wanted to pay $60 for a Zooballoo Cricut cart, so I decided against it. I did get four more "months" of dollar stamps. (They have a line now that has a stamp set for each month of the year.) Got Jory a package of toy planes to build and fly and Lizzie a Hannah Montana stationery set so she can write her "E." I had a 20% off my entire purchase coupon, so I used it and kept my purchase in the single digits.

THEN went to Target to get Jory's meds before I forgot. I had to get two bottles, each with the same labels on it so I can send some to camp with him at the end of the month. I have yet to figure out how I'm going to send his patches. Maybe just keep this box from this last set for us and send a week's worth in the new box. Found "Stuart Little" on DVD for $5, and picked that up, too. Every time we get a federal check the kids get a little something, too.

So aside from getting a much-needed phone, I had an enjoyable day and did not spend an obscene amount of money to do so, either.

Regarding work clothes, I LOVE it when I worked from home. I could be in PJs while working!

Now that I'm back to the office more.. I had to (reluctantly) get some work clothes. Granted, I CAN dress like Alice from Dilbert, and can probably get away with 'career-casual for the not-so-fashionable techie'. I still have to get a few decent clothes. And honestly, Ross just doesn't carry enough career casual clothes.
