embossing?

okay, what really is embossing? where do you start? what do you need to do it? i think i know what it is, but i need some clear guidelines! any help would be appreciated! thanks!

embossing is fun! the look is really cool.

To get started - embossing powder, pigment ink or other slow-drying ink (takes longer to dry, allowing the powder to stick to it), heat gun, rubber stamps.

Generously ink stamp of choice, stamp it on desired surface, pour on embossing powder to cover entire image, then tap off excess. use heat gun to heat evenly over entire image. Don't touch the heat gun to the paper or overheat it, paper will start to burn.

If you want the color of the ink to show, you should use clear embossing powder. There are also colored embossing powders if you want the color of the powder to be visible instead of the ink.

There's also dry embossing when you take a brass template, lightbox and stylus and make an impression of the image. There are also die cutting machines that dry emboss. I know Spellbinders Wizard does and Cuttlebug do too.

any of the roller type machines will dry emboss. The sizzix (I think) is the most compatible with the dry embossing stuff. I can even use fiskars texture plates in my big kick! I use cuttlebug folders, sizzix embossing folders too in it. The key is to have a ROLLER machine, not a PRESSER (like the original sizzix machine) machine.

Wet/heat embossing uses ink and embossing powder that has to be heated. I've also heard of people using the puffy velvet markers made for fabric and heating that to make it all fluffy and embossed.
