I am confused about whether to get the Cricut Expressions (I have the original cricut) or a Sizzix. Any opinions? I am a teacher and I would love to make some things for my classroom but I would also like to do some home decore with it. For example, my daughter saw some vinyl lettering that he friend's mother made for her bedroom wall. I also scrapbook... I've seen some really cute things made with both, so I'm really confused!
I absolutely love my cricut!! You can cut 12 by 12 and there is also mats for 12 by 24. With the cricut you can make vinyl creations, you can cut fabric, glass etching, and many more things I'm sure I have not discovered yet!!!
I would go for the Expression because of everything you can do with it! You might be giving you personal cricut away once you see all of the features the expression has....
Definitely go with the Cricut!! I have both, plus a big kick, and nothing is better than my Cricut! Its so fast and easy to cut out shapes. Plus, I just got done decorating a bulliten board for my ag class (FFA for those who don't know what that is!) and it was just so easy! The board looks awesome; It was fast and easy. The only downfall is how much money everything costs!
right now there are some very good deals on used Sizzix machines and dies. If it was something you wanted the kids to use maybe the Sizzix would be easier? dollar for dollar you would get a bigger bang buying a Sizzix lot unless you get SCAL for the Cricut then the sky is the limit.
I would choose the Sizzix over the Expression, because it can be used anytime, even when the power goes off or there is not source of electricity nearby. I have both as well.
I'm a principal -- I have my own Expression and I was using it so much for things at work, I decided to have the school purchase one. Even the nurse uses it!
I have all the latest and greatest gadgets. I have a Pazzles and both size Cricuts (SCAL too) I can tell you that without a doubt my Expression gets used the most, between SCAL and my 60 or so carts (I get them only on sale at Michaels for $29 or $39) I use this machine almost dailey for home, school or work. Love it. I don't think you can go wrong with an expression, plus the carts you already have will work in it too. Not to mention that if you CDS or a Gypsy you can also use this with both to create much much more.
Definitely Cricut! I started out with a Sizzix....would have saved tons of money if I purchased my Expression first! I also have a Cuttlebug which I use alot for embossing and nesties.
Thanks for all of the great responses! I am intrigued by the Sizzix but thought that I'd end up spending a lot of money for all of the stuff that goes with the Sizzix. I am leaning toward the Expressions but maybe I need both? hahahaha
I have a brand-new Sizzix and an alphabet set (upper and lower case) that I might have used once, still in boxes, etc. if anyone wants to make a reasonable offer?
expressions all the way. You have almost no limitations to size so that should cover all of the bases you mentioned. My neice who is a elementary school teacher loves mine.
Go with the expression. I recently sold my baby bug so I could justify getting it and so glad I did. I also have a bigkick and never use it. Although I'm starting to get into Embossing and have few folders so I will use the bigkick for that. Also get SCAL ,I just downloaded a trial version and love all that can be done with it Enjoy your new toy!!

I have the Sizzix, Sizzix Sidekick, Cuttlebug, Baby Bug and the Expression. I use the Sizzix machine ALOT for my kids school and church. It is easier to cut several die cuts at once with the Sizzix, but I use my Cricut for tons of other things. I just made a sign for a fundraiser that we were having at school using the Designer Calendar cartridge.
I have a sizzix, my long term goal is to get an expression, but right now I love my sizzix, it does everything I want/need and I don't mind the little bit of work I need to put in for the results-I'm the type of person that putting in the 'manual labour' just adds to the fun of it all.
But for what you are looking to do I'd suggest the expression since it is so incredibly versatile!
