Why oh WHY did I start this layout? UPDATE

Wondering why oh WHY did I start a layout that requires MEASURING and PRECICEness????? I eyeball things. I do not measure. lol. I gave up finding a red and white picnic pattern paper so I am improvising. Weaving red and white strips which I THOUGHT were all measured exactly but things just aren't workin out good lol. OH WELL....tomorrow is another day.

Measuring and preciceness? Phhhhht! (says the girl who can't measure anything and is never precise).

Good luck with this layout! I've started a few like that myself and have asked myself that same question.

That;s funny--I don't even know how to use the measuring part of my trimmer, but I got totally yelled at at a crop I went to! They were having a make-n-take, and they wanted everything measured and cut to the proper size, layed out and then you add the picture LAST!!
Whatever--I start with my picture and eyeball the whole LO. I am not a measure and precise kinda girl at all!!

I don't even attempt most of the folds on some of the more complex cards, because I hate measuring and I suck at it. It doesn't look hard, but somehow, I always manage to get something a little off somewhere.

Am ashamed now! I measure everything! lolol I am a perfectionist me mum says (who I happen to scrap with). She is an eyeballer too when it comes to her work but not me! She even makes jokes about it now to others. How I work right on the milimeter and stuff. Have to say, it freaks me out when something is not the right size, especially on cards. Have you seen the new October Afternoon Thriftshop papers? I think there is a pick nick patterned paper in there.

I think several manufacturers have a red and white gingham if that is the look you want.

But, yeah, I feel your pain. I never measure anything. I like the look of the homemade aspect, personally.

Depending on the size of the squares, you can take drywall tape - I have also used a bag that oranges came in - tape it over white paper then dab paint on top. Voila! Checkerboard. Here is a page as an example - I was not going for straight.

Cool look.

I measure a lot also and get frustrated when something ends up crooked anyhow. That's why I stand most of the time when sticking something down. I love the Centering Rulers...have about 3 I think.

I do have the ability to measure things when need be but most of the time im an eyeballers.. makes the process so much faster :-)

I mostly eyeball, but I do measure things like cutting 12x12 paper down to 8x8 size, trimming paper to fit the front of a card, that sort of thing. I measure right on my Fiskars and swing the arm out if I need to. And I stand up to do it -- I've made too many mistakes from looking at a LO "sideways."

I've noticed that a lot of rulers aren't exactly straight...I'm not joking!
So if I can't trust a ruler...what's the point of measuring!
I try to line things up as best I can using another piece of cardstock and a pencil as my guide...other then that...I do not measure!

I totally get what you mean about not being able to find exactly what you want when you have an idea in your head. I made the bg paper for this layout using a square punch to create my checkerboard pattern. No measuring needed. I just lined up each square corner to corner and trimmed the edges.

I can see your frustration with the whole weaving thing though and I think bordering your look will make it a lot easier to hide imperfections.

Just remember though...Scrapbooking is not about making it perfect, because when you get too hung up on that aspect is when your imperfections show the most!

Page 1 of 2 is finished! I would have it all finished but after all this craziness, dh used the printer for something big and failed to tell me it is out of ink!

Good for you for stepping out of your comfort zone to 'measure and precise' ;). I am sure it will look great....as a Kindergarten teacher I always seeing weaving ideas...now I know to not try this at school...can you imagine?

Looks great so far. I love the stitching that you added.

ScrappinMom4, weaving is a art project best left to the art teacher. After the art teacher has done this type of lesson the kids do really well with it.

It is finished! A lot of work but I am happy with how it turned out. Just not so sure I am ready to run out and do more handmade paper or cut out tons of spaghetti just yet.

I never measure... I really should. I have in the past and just don't seem to have the patience to do it! I'm always in such of a hurry, and really don't mind if things aren't exact. You are giving me the incentive to try though....

Patience??? Girl what is that? lol. That is most of my problem with taking the time to be more precise in my work.

I cannot say I get in too big of a hurry though. I am the world's slowest scrapper I think.

I can measure or eyeball, it doesn't matter to me. I have to admit, I have gotten VERY frustrated while teaching class and having to stop everything to instruct someone on how to measure...I was always surprised by how many folks didn't even realize that there were numbers on their trimmers LOL

Khadijah, I can feel your pain! It seems like people don't know how to do some of the simplest of things anymore. My favorite is when I was teaching a photo class and when I mentioned reading the manual to learn your camera a lady actually said she couldn't because she didn't know how to use the table of contents... sigh.
