I have a 12x12 mat that I use when planning layouts but I am getting a new 12" circle cutter for christmas and I will need to use it for cutting since my old CM one is 10x12. I am thinking of getting a magnetic mat (either the BG one or the new WR Memory keepers one) or getting a 16x24 mat. I am a 2 page scrapper and love the idea of lining up 2 pages but I also like the idea of the magnetic mat. The magnetic mats are $40 in Canada so getting two is not an option. For those who have the magnetic mats are they worth it? The large mat is only $14 so its hard not to consider the price difference.

The new CM mat is 12x12 ... that's what I use for the 12" circle cutter

I know they have the new 12x12 mat but I have a 12x12 cutterped mat that I use for page planning and it will be my new cutting mat. I am thinking of getting a magnetic mat (12x12) or a really large mat (16x24).

I have the BG Magnetic Mat and got it at AC Moore with a coupon for under $20....you should check AC Moore online and see what the shipping would be to Canada....and you can use the coupon online....

if your using it for cutting a GLASS mat is the way to go. You can actually use any piece of glass and people have been known to recycle glass cutting boards (use the flat side not the ripple side).

PS I also have a self healing cutting mat that I work on. But when it comes time to actually cutting something with a blade I use my GLASS mat.

I have heard you get a much better cut and the mat lasts forever (unless you break it). btw does anyone know if AC Moore has the BG mats in the store? I have a trip to Buffalo coming up and can stop in one.

My AC Moore in NH has them in the storefronts. Just make sure to grab a coupon off the internet, as they don't have them in store.....

The glass mat is a hard surface and the metal blade sits on top of the glass and glides on it (as opposed to digging into a self healing mat).

You will immediately see the difference when cutting on glass especially when cutting shapes, circles, ovals, etc. The blade can change direction a lot easier on glass. Once you try a glass mat you will have a eureka "this is GREAT" moment...followed by "why didn't I buy a glass mat sooner!"

Interesting. I have never cut on glass before ... however I do have a spare 10 x 13 piece of glass from a broken frame ... would that work to try out and see if I like it ??

Is there any noise from the blade on the glass ... I get serious eeby-jeebies from some of those noises (thinking nails on chalkboard...) ??

I just bought a We R memory keepers Purple magnetic mat today for $14.99...Can't wait to try it out.

It's like the one below but not the whole kit just the mat and the ruler.

I have a glass counter saver next to my stove. Can I use it to try out a glass cutting mat before investing in one. Are they the same thing?? This really sounds like I don't know ANYTHING, but I've never seen anyone using a glass cutting mat of any kind.
