Am I the only one?

Am I the only one who doesn't really care for the Tim Holtz stuff? I like the distress inkpads, but the paper and embellies not so much. It just seems to me that EVERYONE likes TH!

I'm not in to it either.

I don't know...I certainly don't go ga-ga over his products the way some folks might. They're certainly packaged and marketed well...maybe it's that I am not an experienced enough scrapper? I don't seem to get the hang of the glimmer mists or the Perfect Pearls, and that kinda induces me to avoid purchasing more.

But who am I to talk? I've got a major think for BasicGrey and Inkadinkado!

Maybe it's because he's a male scrapper?

Majority of the stuff I dont like but there are a few things I do like, like the game spinners as they function well as the arms of a clock. I saw some cute clock plates and keys. But thats about it. I find the products very expensive compaired to what you get and being it am a bit of a cheapskate, I tend to look for cheaper options. Sometimes I get lucky n sometimes I cave...lol..

I agree. I have some of the TH distress stickles. That's it. I think there are some awesome LO's using his stuff, but it's not for me.

It doesn't hurt that he's such a cutie patootie, even if he isn't interested in my gender ...

But seriously, I think he's exceptionally talented and love his distress inks. I have two boys and like the more masculine look of his stuff. Some of it is not my style, but only because I can't reproduce it myself, not because I don't think it's cool

I do & I don't know. I wouldn't go as far as to say, everybody out there. I think it's way fewer scrappers than people realize. Sometimes, it probably just feels that way is all. (Especially so, in the case of something that people tend to love).

I mainly & mostly love his metal embellishments.

I love Steampunk stuff & there's not a whole lot of other artists or companies that I know of, that are completely onboard just yet.

But then again, not everyone cares for or 'gets' Steampunk, but that's a whole nother thread!

I like SOME of his stuff. Do I buy it just because it's Tim's? NO! It has to actually be useful to me. I have two boys (like madmatter) and find that sometimes it works best because of the masculine angle. I prefer the ink's I was using before he came out with his. But I do love distressed stickles, adds the chunky wihtout the bling my boys get upset about. I ask them before I bling on "their" pages. Now the sprockets & gears were a huge hit at our house

I LOOOOOOOOOVE TH stuff!! I mostly like the Ideaology, masks, and INKS! But the paper is cool.

I agree with ASTRANGEVICTORY. I'm still not sold on glimmer mist or stickles for that matter.

I do like the old looking time peices and keys and the distress inks and the rest I could care less about.

I'm determined to get that glimmer mist thing tho....I bought stuff today to make my own for less than half the retail price of the real stuff and I should be able to get 3 batches out of it!!!!

Funny, I mentioned something to a couple of my scrapping friends and they had never heard of him. I hadn't either until I started visiting this site a couple of months ago, which then got me into his distress inks. I also like some of his metal embellies, but they are a little expensive, I also like some of his paper but again, on the expensive side. So I'm watching the sales.

I feel "meh" about it. I bought a couple distress inks...not something I'm nuts over.

I do not go "Nuts" persay, but I do love alot of the TH products.

There are items of his that I like.

I do like his ink pads, pretty much due to diversity of colors.

There are some other items I like, but don't necessarily have use for -- like the acetate photostrip, some of his twills and tapes, and some of his stamps I adore....

But, yea... I'm really not a Tim follower. I actually only have two items of his -- one ink pad and one distress stickles color.

I really like the distress inks and have about 7 of them now - the colors are great! I just recently got into distressing, so I'm really loving his stuff. I use his mini masks a lot with my glimmer mist. I don't have a lot of his embellies, but I did get the adage tickets and word sticks and they're really cool, IMO. I'm not a big fan of the distress stickles or embossing powder, though. I just don't like the way it looks.

I have some distress ink and it's fine. I don't like his other stuff. Most of it I look at and think "what would I do with that?"

I do like the quality of his masks and the clear fragments.

As a mom of boys I really struggle to find masculine embellishments, they are either for baby/toddler or older.
The fact he does more gears, metal and the grungy aka "dirty" look is helping a bit as my older DS moves into that tween stage.

That said his style is definitely out of my comfort zone.

Your choices certainly depend on your style, your subject and your budget. I think Tim, just like any other "company", fills a niche (boys and steampunk mainly), very similar to 7 Gypsies or Graphic 45. But I think all companies can be generalized like that...to me Doodlebug Design is fairly girly, K&Co is geared more towards the little ones, SEI tends to be very flowery, and Martha Stewart is just plain frumpy.

I say buy what you like, no matter who makes it. You're never going to like EVERYTHING someone makes, I think that's true with anything.

Whatever you do, though, USE the stuff you buy. You can't take it with you, and it looks much better when used on a page than sitting in your drawer...

I'm not one who has to have everything Mr. Holtz makes, I do appreciate quite a few of his inks, a couple paints, embellies and masks. Since I spend a lot of my scrapping time focusing on my son and my husband, this is helpful.

What I appreciate most about Mr. Holtz is what I can acquire for free -- his tips, tricks and techniques. His style. His friendly approach that was sooo valuable when I was beginning -- it's okay to make a mistake because... Well, how's anyone really going to know? He is a source of inspiration and bit of confidence in a can...or ink container. Life is messy. He makes it somehow easier to approach. For that, I'm incredibly grateful; so in the process I buy his goodies. I don't do it because it's "Tim Holtz." I buy it because it's what works for me on a few different levels.

I personally am a Tim fan. I love all the metal he has in his line and the distressed look.

I'm not one to buy stuff just because it is made by a certain person/company. I do have 1 single TH distress ink pad. I do like it. I've not bought or used anything else by him. I do think some people have made gorgeous LOs & projects using his stuff.

I do like Stickles though...just discovered them a few weeks ago. I'd like to try glimmer mist too.

Yes, I have to agree, with Anne (Mammasaid), watching his videos have really helped stretch my abilities and thinking. He makes playing with different inks look fun instead of intimidate me like they use to.

I don't care for distressing or the vintage look, so his stuff doesn't work for me and my style. That said, I do love his stuff and what he does with it. I just wouldn't use it, except maybe the Stickles. I've tried the Distress Inks and they didn't excite me. Though every time I see Jen McGuire use them I want to get more.

I their with ya don't really care for it myself but I do appreciate the art the others make using it. Vintage and Distressing are something that I struggle with actually doing myself but others they just have a natural knak for that.

I don't think it's so much that I don't like it as it is that I don't really know how to use it. The grunge/distressed look is not something I have experience with so it can be a little intimidating for me.

I have to say I purchased one of his packages of large, textured chipboard letters a long time ago and have not use it at all yet. I am at a loss how to use them. If anyone has any samples of the things they made with the Tim Holtz line I would love to see some.

but the distress inks, eh,,,,,not sold,,,,I like chalk inks better,,,,

His stuff doesn't suit my style, so I'm not a fan, either.

I bought two packages and use them a lot, every now and then. If you look up his alphas in the store, you should see loads of projects that include them. I know I marked them as a product I used every time.

I currently only have a couple of inkpads and 1 distress stickles. I do like some of the effects I can get with the ink. Though I have eyed some of his other stuff, I'm either a bit intimidated by it (Perfect Pearls, Glimmer Mist)or not interested (embellishments).

I don't really care for it. *Everything* TH looks grunge-y, and while that's fine for a few LO's, I don't want my scrapbook looking like that.

I used quite a few TH products on this project. I used several pieces of grungeboard, a swivel clasp, and several of his stamps. I also inked EVERYTHING with his distress ink! I used a lot of perfect pearls too, but you can't really see that in the photo.

eh- not so into HIS stuff because it's HIS but I will buy it if I like it. That said, I don't have anything that's TH brand. I do have TONS of Ranger stuff tho. Oh, stickles? Not too impressed. Dunno what the deal is with me and them but they're just ok to me.

I was just at the LSS buying a Tim Holtz paper stack this past Saturday. I love the distressed look but need more practice with it.

Im addicted to distress inks and tons of tim holtz/ ranger products. I dont buy everything he puts out though. There are alot of things that he makes that I just wouldn't use. His demos are great and I love to watch the different techniques.

I personally am a tim holtz fan(dont own everything he makes) but like anything else his style isn't going to be for everyone. Me for instance I don't really get the steampunk thing.

I guess I gotta keep up with the names.. the last 5 min.I just found out what Tim H is. Am I a big fat Duh...

Dont feel bad Tara. I was at a crop and a lady had a picture of herself and a guy. I said is that your son, he is really good looking. It was Tim Holtz! Thats how I found out who he was!

I don't like the whole distressed trend period! I feel like it just looks dirty. I like ripped paper but the whole crumpling up and spritzing with water thing doesn't really work for anything but steampunk or gothic themes. But that' just 1 highly opinionated chick's take on it.
I've seen some fantastic work from artists on this site but I feel like those are rare.
I also think his stuff is way over priced- I can get 25 "Milagros" from a store on Etsy for the same price as 8 of his metal embellies- 8 bucks. But I do love his metal stuff- I just wait to buy it with coupons.
Stickles- I'm not entirely sold on but I use the diamond color one a lot.
I hate HATE the distressed stamp pads! I have not tried them once where it looked ok using any kind of stamp- it always comes out looking junky. (Way personal taste on this by the way)
Glimmer mists are great if you are willing to let go- I have messed up several perfect layouts by making one pass too many. I force myself to "get over it"- sometimes imperfect is it's own lesson.

Several have mentioned Glimmer Mist- is this his product? I always thought it was just Tattered Angels- does he have designer line of colors with them?
If so, then I have tons of that!! Other than that, just a few of the distressed stickles and ink pads. I scrap girls only, so his stuff doesn't really work for me, but I do like him, his tut's and the uniqueness of his stuff.
Oh, and didn't even know he had paper, I pay no attention to names/companies.

I'm an inky girl so I love Tims' products! I've got every stickle, distress ink, perfect pearl, liquid pearl, alcohol ink and glimmer mist out there! You could say Tim is keeping me poor! I think it's all the amazing colours that get me in!
As for all the other stuff, nuh, not my style at all!

Oh my gosh.... I love Tim Holtz stuff! However, my style is very,very eclectic so I like just about anything that doesn't look like it was made for a preschooler. I have about six of the distress ink pads and In love with them! I just think that they add so much to my pages. Another thing I've found is that they work very well for stamping large filled images, but for sure not detailed writing or intricate images; it just plain doesn't work. Plus I keep an art journal, and in that I'm always being messy and just playing, so his products are always close at hand in case I want to add a little something.
