Cricut Mats

Nov '10 Hotroding Scrapbooker

Okay, one last time. I know this has been posted at least a dozen times, but I have one last question before I do it.

I'm trying to re-sticky my cricut mats. From what I understand, I'm going to:
1. wash the mat well with windex & lint free cloth
2. tape off the green edge
3. apply spray adhesive

My questions are:
1. Is this the right process?
2. Do I let the adhesive sit for any length of time or do I put the clean protective sheet over it immediately?

I have never heard the windex......but you do want to clean the mat. I use Dawn and a scrubbing pad. Let is dry, and if you are using a spray on, less tape the edges. As you will get it on them, and the glue will get on the rollers. but let it, the glue dry before putting the clear cover back on.

I use a wide glue stick, Mathra Stewart's, it's blue on mine all the time. I have found out if I clean the mat using the Dawn, after I am finish, letting it dry, and then putting back on the clear cover, it works for me.

I feel the real tip is cleaning at mat first

I swear by the WIDE Zig glue pen. I just take one of those plastic scrapers you get from Pampered Chef, give the mat a good scraping, then spread on the glue in a thin layer, being careful to avoid the margins of the mat (to keep glue from getting it on your Cricut rollers). I let it set overnight before I put the clear plastic protective sheet back on. Good as new - well, almost!

If it's not too bad a baby wipe will work really well. I have done that to mine several times!

I use the wide Zig 2-way pen too after cleaning. It's easy and it works really good.

I tried the spray adhesive and it was too sticky. I couldn't get the paper off. Maybe I was using the wrong kind but it didn't work for me.

I like the Wide glue by MS better than the Zig Glue Pen. It seems to work better for me. And for some reason people say Dawn Dishwashing Soap. Why? I don't know.

This is pretty much what I do to a T!

By the way, if you go to youtube, there are lots of extra helpful videos on the topic!

Scrappers use everything from lighter fluid to brake fluid!

Whatever you use, just know that by doing so, you hereby void out your warranty.

Either way, I usually just stick with soap, water & the glue. It's pretty easy-peasy & seems to work everytime!

I used my Pampered Chef scrapper to remove the old adhesive, worked like a charm. (If only Pampered Chef knew all the other things people use those scrappers for. My Pampered Chef consultant re-caulked her bathtub with one!) Sprayed it down with the adhesive and let it sit for a while, but not long enough. When I pulled the plastic sheet off, some of the glue came with it. Here's to trying again tomorrow.

Martha Stewart has one that is just like the Zip. I like it better. And I only use the pen for redo my mats. I have found that if I clean the mat after using it, and letting dry, then putting the cover on, I don't have to do the pen as soon.

I have a CraftRobo, but the process is the same for the mats. I use the Xyron repositionable adhesive 2.5" refills and take out the adhesive roll. Once I've cleaned my mat (I use acetone nail polish remover to take off all the gunk) I cut strips of the adhesive roll and apply it to my mat. I then use my hand and put my hand all over the mat to reduce some of the tackiness of the adhesive. I find that the Xyron adhesive is strong enough, but not so strong that I can't get my paper off the mat.

Because Dawn is amazing - cuts through grease and stuff like nobody's business and somehow is still gentle. I'm pretty much anti-branding but there are a handful I'm devoted to and Dawn is one of them.

I need to try the MS glue pen.

I have a Gazelle but re-stickying is the same. I usually use Krylon Easy Tack. It's SO super easy!

I've never tried to reglue my cutting sheet, but may have to give this a try. Thanks for the tip.

I use the Crafters Companion Stick Away Spray to clean it...just spray and scrap lightly with a flat edge I use a credit card...and with in about 30 seconds I have a super clean adhesive free mat. I do use the crafters companion spray adhesive to re-sticky it but I think it is to strong. I am definately going to try the Zig next time.

LOL, I have to admit, I've scraped it and used the dish liquid, it got sticky again and then I just secured the corners with tape and kept it movin'. It's working for now. I've thought about reusing and reusing it, but I think I'mma buy a new one.

I'll have to try the MS brand of glue. I do agree with buying a new one, but there have been a few times when I haven't had one on hand and didn't have time/money/ambition to go buy a new pack.

Well, I was cleaning off the kitchen table today and I decided at that point in time it wasn't worth the hassle of trying to re-sticky my mats, again after I made a mess of the one. I still have one or two new mats in a package, then I'll be using my J's 40% coupon to invest in some new ones.

J's here wont' let me use a coupon on any cricut product

but frankly, it's just not worth my time,energy etc to re-sticky mats,,,,,

I buy 2 for 8 bucks at WM,,,,I get usually a MONTH to 2 MONTHS out of that pack,,,,,,

just not worth it,,,,,,

i will, however, clean them with dish soap and a scrubby sponge,,,,,usually can do this twice to each mat before it's just no good anymore, regardless,,,,,

Sorry guys I guess I am just really cheap. I re conduction mine. I will have 2 or 3 mats working at the same time. But I am the one who last week end cut out 200 apples for my class art project.
