Help with adhesive!!

I am having serious problems with adhesives! A lot of my pages and albums from a couple of years ago are coming apart - you can see where I have applied it but it is no longer holding!
Any suggestions? What are your favorite adhesives?

I love glue dots or KI Gloo for heavy stuff like buttons, metal, or even dimensionals like flowers. I use tombo mono-adhesive for paper and photos. I get it at a great price at this one store online, where I buy it in bulk.

For my money, you can't beat the ATG. I haven't fooled around with different adhesives (except glue dots and foam dots) since I got mine. (Can't add the product onto this post, for some reason, but they carry the ATG guns and refills here.)

I use the Glue Glider Pro and I haven't had any problems

Did you use glue stick?

I also use the glue glider pro. I tried alot of different ones before but this one beats them all.

I love MONO MULTI! I love that stuff I also use the Tombo permant tape runners!

i have the atg glider upstairs...i like it...had trouble at 1st but got use to it...my favorite is the snail adhesive from Stampin up...i sell the products now...but i say that without any strings attached...i have tried several types of glues...but the snail works great...

ATG! I love my ATG and those pages will last forever. After purchasing the dispenser, its the best price on adhesives in my opinion. Those small disposable, even small refillable tape runner are super expensive if you do a lot of scrapbooking.

I use the glue dots (in the plastic bag, not the box - I don't care for the ones in the box) for things going on glitter paper and I use a Zig for detail work I'm or letters which are too fine for the ATG.

For velum I use a Xyron.

Ditto Henri Jean! The best is the ATG. I also have a glue glider pro but the ATG is economical.

No, I don't use glue sticks where as they tend to warp my paper, but I am happy to hear the Glue Glider Pro is a good one. My mom just bought me one and that's what i've used recently.

atg with the gold tape and you will have no problems, I have some pages that are 5 plus years old never had to re tape....my older pages with duck and many others I've had to re-tape.

@MadScrappinMim, so what adhesive did you use? what brand and type? Were you pages inside page protectors?

I've only started scrapbooking since a few months ago and I'm so scared my adhesive won't stick!

Sadly I have used several and don't remember them all, but mostly from Oriental Trading. I got them for a great price, and now unfortunately I am paying the price
It is mostly a problem with my chipboard albums, but has happened to some pages and cards as well.
I am going with the ATG

The Scotch Adhesive Dot roller is my favorite adhesive. I had the same problem as you. I used adhesive from Walmart, and now I have pages and pages falling apart. I am a huge fan of the Scotch!

I use different adhesives for different jobs. My go-to is my ATG. For ribbon and making pockets in mini albums, I use thin red tape. For heavy embellies, I use my Tombo multi, and for intricate designs cut from my Silhouette I use either a zig pen or my Xyron X. I use glue dots for tiny things.

For cards that I think will likely be pitched after receiving, I use an Elmer's tape runner.

I think I have more in my adhesives box but those are the ones I use the most.

Oh! I also use a spray adhesive for adhering paper to chipboard.

Everyone here appears to be against glue sticks. All I've ever used until recently is gluesticks or liquid glue. I am finding (in looking at some of the pgs I did 5 years ago) that the glue doesn't seem to hold over time. I can pull the pics off w/o too much trouble so that must be why ppl are against them? But who's going to be trying to take the pics off if they are in protectors. I tried one of the little relativly inexpensive glue tape dispensers and don't see that it works very well either. It buckles the paper underneath. I've thought about the ATG, but it doesn't seem very economical for its price. If you analyze it each pic is 4x6 so that means if you go around all edges it's 20" of glue tape for every picture which is almost 2 feet! Then you you have the matting behind that which is another 20". So if you average 4 pics per page like I do that's 160"(13') for 1 page. Doesn't sound very economical, but I don't really know. I'm kind of at a loss too and don't want to keep spending $$ on stuff that doesn't hold, warps or buckles pages or is super expensive.

I recently bought a pink ATG, but haven't used it yet so I cannot attest to it's sticking power (but have heard good things!).

I like Glue Dots, especially for glitter pages.

And I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my Xyron X for die cuts. I'm actually thinking about getting a bigger model at some point because it's just that good.

My good friend swears by CMs tape runners, BUT her mom sells CM....

Nothing against Oriental Trading Company as they are very good for cheap decorations and party favors. But their scrapbooking items are not as good quality, at least in my experience. Years ago, I ordered some adhesive runners from them at a great price. Fortunately for me, the adhesive didn't even glide off the runners, so into the trash they went. I was very disappointed at the time. I now use Scotch adhesive runners for paper and liquid glue for chipboards and other "harder to bond" items.

Seems like many members like the tombow multi adhesive, I totally agree! It lasts forever because you just need so little of it to hold, and it works on so many different materials. It is my go to glue!

ATG is very economical - if you use a lot of adhesive you really save. It take two short swipes of it - one on each side of the photos and two short swipes on the mat.

So the adhesive is strong, then? What happens if you put something down in the wrong spot, do you have some give to get it back off to reposition? I tend to get stuff in the wrong spot the 1st time and forturnatly the glue pens allow for some movement. Does it buckle or arch matted pics (or the paper underneath)at all? Sorry for the questions but it is so expensive to buy, but I do have 3 40% off coupons I can use this week so I am thinking about it.

I've never had buckling or wharping from the ATG.

THer is very little play room with the ATG. I find a few minutes if I'm using a good slick bazzill or sturdy paper but with a flimsy or cheap cardstock - once the ATG is down, nothing is going to move.

THat said, I've heard of repositionable ATG tape I think - maybe on line but I don't know anything about it.

Hi! I order this great tape from scrapbuck.com. Go on the site, click adhesives, and it's the first or second product. You can tear it with your fingers, it only costs a dollar for over 60 feet, and it's AMAZING. Holds everything in place for me!!

I don't use much of the adhesive with my ATG. I used more with my other adhesive. I Love my ATG

Thanks for the info, Henri. The "once it's stuck down, it ain't movin'" thing kind of scares me, though. I am notorious for putting stuff down and having to "slide" it into place. It's not like I'm glueless at home, I do have Elmers glue sticks, liquid glue and tape roller, my xyron X and 5" xryon and glue dots. I just them all for different purposes. The Elmers stuff (although I have used scotchs brand of the same items) is what I usually use to mount pics, and so far I don't think I have 1 scrapbook page that is not warped where I glued or used the tape runner (or as I just found out recently-can be peeled of the page easily). The glue dots I use on more delicate items and the xyrons on my diecuts and titles. So I really am thinking about the gun, although I need some new scrapbooks now, too. SO much shopping to do, so little $$.

I got the gun with two refills that come with it, and extra two refills (2 refills in one box) and a MS scoring board all for under $40 including free shipping from another website. It was a great deal and I couldn't pass it up. The refills for the gun, I will only buy with a coupon, which really makes it cheaper than other adhesives.

WOW! That is an amazing deal. Considering my M's charges that much for the gun only! Nice score.

I have found (with the ATG tape) that if you put the paper/photo down and press on it with your hand it will be stuck down very well and most likely won't come up without ripping all of paper underneath the tape (and then some depending on the paper). I try not to push down until I know it's in the right spot. I can sometimes pull up the paper/photo without any issue, or at least just a little ripping, but I'm usually only moving it less than an inch so I'm ok--again, it can depend on the paper it was taped to.

I was gonna use my 40% coupon for M's, but then I found it on Amazon for $18.95 and I'm a prime member so I get free 2 day shipping! So I think that it was a really good deal. It would have still be $24 at M's even with the coupon.

Yup, that's where I got it. can't beat the deal. Their refills are cheaper too. So, I ordered that along with the gun and then the MS scoring pad was dirt cheap if you bought all 3. Hence, under $40. Way cheaper than M's, A's, or J's.

Yeah it was a deal and they actually had that combo set up for me to purchase too if I wanted it. I hope I like it, at least I didn't spend a ton on it so now I feel much better about the purchase

Hi from Australia. In my mind, there are basically 2 types of Glues- Wet glue and Dry glue.The Wet glues are the ones that come in bottles and are clear gum type glues. The dry glues are your ATG gum, the double sided tapes, glue dots etc.
The only glues that have had permanent glueing and staying power for me in our hot climate, are the clear craft type glues that come in bottles or 'pens'. (You may be familiar with The Paper Studio Dual Tip Glue Pens.) in Australia we have different brands- but the ones I use mostly are the Clear 'Wet' glues. Four dots of wet glue in the corners of photos holds them fine. We even have some 30 year old albums and the photos are still holding strong.
I have had double sided tape and glue dots lose their 'sticking ability' and have had photos and other papers pop off the page. I don't have trouble with paper warping as long as I use a thin layer of glue.

I like my Herma square adhesive applicator. I can pick stuff up and move it around. I definitely would have to have re positional adhesive. I've looked at the atv guns. There are different ones...which is the best?

Mine is the Scotch brand ATG that is pink. I love it. Love it. Love it. Out of all the adhesives I have tried, used, this is the best.
