Wood Veneers

I may be new to this trend but what do you do with wood veneers?

I've seen some pretty freaking cute ones but I am lost as to what to do with them? Do you color them or leave them blank? Are they easy to adhere or do you need something like wood glue?

If you have links to your projects you have used wood veneers on feel free to post them as well so I can get some ideas!

I mostly just leave them, but they are like chipboard, you can paint or ink them too.

I find they look cute plain but I also colour them with ink.....I just use glue dots to glue them down. Love the look.

I used my first one a few days ago. I left it blank because I wanted the natural look of the wood. But I wouldn't hesitate to paint it, or otherwise alter it if it better suited the layout.

Leave plain or alter. You can use ink, paint, sprays, markers, washi tape, paper, etc., etc. For the little Prima suitcase on this one, I used Distress ink, Distress Marker in Picket Fence for the borders .... or possibly Picket Fence Paint applied with a q-tip, I can't recall, and Sakura gel pens to mimic travel stickers

I love wood veneers! I've acquired quite a collection of them! I just attach them using a glue dot.

The ONLY ones that I have are Dachshunds. I made sure I got one for EACH of the Dachshund's I've ever had to put on their name page in an album.

Trying to decide how to do it. I may paint them for each Dachshund. Peaches, Sugar Plum, Snoopy, Trouble & Davy are all red. But Amanda and Michel (see my avatar) are red and white and Kita was black and tan. So, I should probably stain them to match or paint to match.

I get them because I like the color and texture of the wood, so I leave them raw. To adhere, I just use scotch quick dry.

This is great! All your projects look awesome. Thanks for the help. I recently won some at an Expo and was a little lost as to what to do with them!

I was asking this same question about a month ago and then I just sat down one day and played with them. I had some glimmer mist, embossing powders, and smooch I had never tried so I just starting playing. I personally like how the embossed pieces turned out the best.

I used Dylusions spray mist on the wood letters

It depends on the project, sometimes I leave them as is but I often alter them. You can use just about anything on them, paint, spray inks, alcohol inks, colored pencils, add glitter....There is a newer company called Unique Laser Designs and they have a blog that has a lot of ideas on how to use wood veneer pieces. uniquelaserdesigns.blogspot.com is the blog. I often use the Best Glue Ever to attach them to projects.

I just started using them myself. I bought some cute SC ones that already have words printed on them, and some shape ones that I just leave as is because I like the look, although I have thought of inking or misting them.

I do a bit of both. I have colored them with inks, mists and my new fav is copic markers.

I've seen large wood shapes being stamped on - looks terrific, with the small scale stamp pattern - very lovely

I got a bunch of wood shapes from wood carving isle at the local store, all school themed - apple, school bus, school house, pencil - colored them all with sharpies (no sharp lines on wood, by the way) and used them on school pages.

I'm a pretty lazy scrapper and mostly leave mine up colored. I also like the little bit of natural contrast to all he color on pages, but like others ink or mists and rarely a marker are my fav ways of coloring them when I want to do that.
