Vellum Glue Dots

Hello all,

Are vellum glue dots not sold any longer? I looked here, at M's and HL and the only thing I found was a vellum runner. What do you use to hold vellum pieces so it doesn't show?

Hi Vicki! Since I don't use vellum often enough, when I do use it, I always try to embellish any corner that has glue. I did find adhesive sheets here on sb.com - you only cut what you need. I've seen the dots at Michael's before. ??? Good luck in your search! Lisa

I e-mailed the Glue Dots company a year or so ago and asked that very question. And no, Glue Dots no longer makes the vellum glue dots. I grabbed what little I found online at that time. I've tried the Scotch vellum tape and it showed through some. Scotch double faced scrapbooking tape did not work well either. Did lightly mist some scrap vellum indirectly with spray adhesive and that seemed to work the best. There was a new product that the lady at the LSS told me about last week, but since I knew I had a stash of vellum adhesive I didn't buy any. Sorry don't remember what it was.

I recently used vellum after years of hiatus. I didn't want to use brads so I got a little crafty. The vellum I have has a good weight to it so I left a healthy blank margin to counter the weight of the other side that would remain unattached. I tucked the blank adhesive laden side under a border strip and picture. The detached side seems to be anchored in place to the point of having to check it again to see if I did adhere it.

Other thoughts are incorporating stickers, brads, or as someone else said hiding the glue part under embellishments. If I remember correctly people used the Xyron because it gave full coverage. You may want to test that theory before putting it on a layout.

In light of the recent come back of vellum I wonder if we might start to see a new round of adhesive pop up. Perhaps Joanie might have more insight to offer.

Other people have used their Xyron, but I didn't like the results with the vellum I have.

Wow well thanks for that you got it from the horses mouth so to speak. I thought of trying spray I might give it a try,it makes sense.

Yes I just did the tuck thing on a LO and it looks good but there is a spot I need adhesive, the vellum runner I got today was from HL, maybe a will look ok.

I can understand your dilemma especially if you just bought Tim Holtz vellum. I can only imagine the awesome layouts you have planned for it.

My experience with spray adhesive was a dotted effect showing through the vellum when it dried. It could very likely be operator error but I would recommend a test.

I meant to ask earlier, what was the experience you had with the vellum runners that turned you off? Are they not blending?

I used vellum for journaling and then cut to the size I needed and then uses the xyron for the larger sheets. It fastened it right down with no glue spots showing anywhere.

However, I didn't like the edges so I made frames and completed framed my journaling boxes.

@ Henri Jean - when I trim vellum to the size I need I lightly sand the edges with an emery board. Don't like the rough edges resulting when I cut the vellum with my trimmer or a craft knife.

@ Jaxxan - when I used vellum tape runners, special vellum tape, or my Xyron the adhesive tends to show through slightly. It may just be me being particular or it might be my brand of vellum. When I sprayed adhesive on the the vellum I didn't spray it directly but rather laid the vellum down and spray over the vellum. I have a box I do spraying in - put the vellum near a corner and spray into the corner a couple of inches above the vellum. Tiny drops of glue fall on the vellum. I always do a test first.

There are lots of other ways that vellum can be attached - brads, photo corners, sewing, staples. If using brads I punch a small hole first so I don't tear the vellum.

One way that I have attached large pieces of vellum to LO's is by making faux photo corners out of 1/8 inch satin ribbon. I decide where the vellum will go on the LO and make 8 slits around the corners (two on each corner). Then I thread the ribbon through the slits and adhere to the back. Simply slip the corners of the vellum under the ribbon. I would test this first on scrap. Sorry I'm not very tech savvy so I don't have a picture to show.

Hmm well the spray is maybe not reacting to the vellum properly then an beading up. I can see that happening.

The Vellum Runner I purchased at HL is EZ Runner Permanent Fine Adhesive by Scrapbook Adhesives. It comes in a self-contained runner that is purple. You have to look at the purple applicator closely to see the word Vellum on it. I might not have found it but a lady that has worked there for a long time knew it was there. I used it on some TH vellum today and it does not show, but keep in mind this is a printed vellum and I have not tried it on a clear vellum. Still it might be ok for the TH so I'm pleased for now.
