What paper cutter/trimmer should I buy?

I have the Fiskars trimmer and think it is great, I guess because I've had it for years now and don't know any better. But, I saw the cutterpede on DIY scrapbooking and they were saying it is great for kids to use because the blade isn't exposed ever. I have cut myself so many times on my Fiskars trimmer. I always do this when I am moving the blade back to the starting position. My right pointer is getting calloused from all the cuts. LOL. Maybe for safety reasons I need to get a cutterpede.
So is it true, is the cutterpede blade safer??

I had the Fiskars could not cut straight at all. I bought the cutterpede last week at walmart I really like it alot. But then I saw the Tonic 12" guilotine (sp) and ordered it this weekend waiting for it to come.

Well, mine is from Staples a Bidex rotary trimmer. I love it! It works awesome, but is around $24.00, which I gues is a bit steep from reading this!!

I got it because I have little ones and a guillotine is out of the question!

No matter whether you use a guillotine type or Fiskars/Cutterpede type, if the blade is not perpindicular with the fence, then you will not get a straight cut. We have several of the Fiskars type cutter, a CM guillotine, and a large guillotine that dw had purchased years ago for use at school. For trimming borders from photos, I like to use the CM guillotine, though if I am in too much of a hurry, the cut will not be square. Have tried using my Fiskars, and found that it marred the photos a little in from the cut edge (have been told that I am too heavy handed!).

IMHO it comes down to what works best for you and what you're comfortable with.

I have cutterpede and love it for paper but not for photos. I highly reccomend the Creative MEmeories personal trimmer for photos.

Help!! I bought the cutterpede, but i'm having a hard time figuring it out.. Does the little blade thing attach to anything? Mine is just separate from the base, I have to hold it down to cut.. Does it just require getting used to it?

I feel like a dork now.. my co-worker just helped me figure it out... the little cutter slides into the plastic cutting bar.. oopsie! =O)

I have the CM personal trimmer and love it.

And I think you can cut wax paper to sharpen the blades.

did you order the small base 12" or the large base.

i have the small base, for its ease of storage and portability, but the large base is great too. we've got one at my LSS. i lurve it!

tonic's are the best. and the guys that run the company are really great too.

I love my Cutterpede!!!! My Fiskars was awful! It doesn't cut straight. I have the CM guillotine (is that the Personal Trimmer?). I have never really used it, but since many of you are saying it is good for pictures, I think I'll dig it out!

I love the new CM Paper trimmer. I had a Fiskar but have quickly replaced it with the new CM one.

well... as usual I am in the minority. I have had my Fiskars trimmers for 7 years on the small one and 3 years on the larger one and they still both work great! I am about to get the Cutterpede but purely for demonstration purposes. I have never really had any trouble with my Fiskars not cutting straight but I do agree with scrappinpapa about using it on photos.. I have had it make little scratches on the photos too.

Hi, I'm a newbie. I use TONS of photos in my layouts -- like, 300/month. I print them at home and must cut the white border off before I scrap. Until now, I'd been using scissors -- I told you I was new! -- but y'all put "paper trimmer/cutter" on your "can't live without" lists, so... can you give me the scoop? Which cutter really works? Again, I mostly cut just photos, not paper. I cut straight lines almost always. And I'm on a budget.

Oh, and I have a Michael's nearby!

I'm REALLY new, Angela... up, okay, so Cutterpede is a brand. And Fiskar's, right? Are these cutters like smaller versions of the "guillotene" thing in offices? Or do they work differently? ARE there different types of cutters? Help, I need a tutorial!

I guess I'd like precision, but also speed. A cutter where you have to pin the photo down or something would be a pain for 300 photos -- or maybe you guys could tell me differently?

EK sucess is the brand....the cutter is called Cutterpede...it is green with a handle.....It cuts much better than Fiskars IMO!

BTW....Ac Moore carries them and your LSS should carry them too....

I also have the Cutterpede..I'm a real newbie (only been sbing for about a month)...I LOVE IT!!! It has made my life much easier with getting straight edges and sizing appropriately..and yes I did get mine at Walmart..LOL

I have both the Fiskars and Cutterpede. If you want to cut special edges (like decorative scissors), I would recommend buying the Fiskars. One tip...the bar the blades cuts on...I would label with the different blades (i.e. scallop, deckle) otherwise, your blade will not cut straight. I also like the cutterpede but wish they would come out with different blades.

Now to avoid sleep all weekend, so I can SCRAP!

$16.95 is a great price for that. It retails for at least $20.

get a tonic. save yourself the hassle of trying anything else. it's fabulous.

they're sooo much better than any other trimmer. still new(ish) and not as mass marketed (yet, anyway). they're avaailable online. and come in rotary (ew - i hate rotaries, even if other people dig em) and guillotine (yay! guillotine).

i have the small base 12". i lurve it. everyone at my LSS used tonics exclusively now. the other cutters in the classroom are sorely neglected! (and we have one of most every kind for customers to try and use).

Buy the cutterpede. Best scrapping investment I've ever made.

I like my Carl's Professional Rotary Trimmer better than the Cutterpede--just to add to the mix. But then you'll find there's always disagreement on favorite tools--suggest you try to find an LSS that has a work room and will let you try some out.

What ever you buy DO NOT get the grey Fiskars paper trimmer. It SUCKS!!! It doesn't cut straight no matter what you do!!! I've got a new paper cutter on my wish list so I'll be watching this thread closely to see what everyone likes.

I *hate* my fiskars trimmer. Serves me right for trying to be cheap about it. Now I'm just hoping to break it so I have a good excuse to buy a new trimmer. I'm leaning toward cutterpede, as I've heard great things about it.

I have this trimmer, got it as a gift. It isn't that great, but I've found if you hold the paper at the opposite end from where you start the cut and make sure the other end is up against the edge it works a lot better.
I also have cheap colored fiskars trimmer that I use all the time and I love it. It always cuts straight.

I have a Fiskars Rotary Trimmer that I bought at Costco and use it all the time. Especially for cutting pictures that I print from my PC. I have learned that I just can't cut in a straight line with scissors, so I have stopped trying.

I want this one! My forum at my LSS has been talking about it, and when I finally got into the store to buy one, they were sold out!!!!!!! I did use it though and it is great. I can't wait until they get their next shipment.

I also agree with Fribbit. They are resonable & great for pic's. You can always "go up" later to a Genesee or Dahle.

I have had my CM personal trimmer for about 15 months and it is still going strong.
Someone said you can use foil to sharpen it??? And it is lifetime guarenteed

I totally agree. I love the personal trimmer. The price for what you are getting is awesome. They also have a new 12" trimmer that retails for $19.50 as well. I love that for my big paper. For pictures, it's always the personal trimmer from CM.
