storing metal dies

How do you store your thin dies? My collection has outgrown my system.

I use artbin storage with magnetic sheets.

I use Art Bins. I have several and divide the dies into categories. They have magnetic sheets, so the dies are kept safely in place.

check out Jennifer McGuire's storage for dies. It is the best!! You can just flip through your dies using stamp envelopes and a fridge bin!!

I find "magnetic vent covers" at Lowe's or Dollar Tree. They are magnetic sheets. I glue them to cereal box (my cheap version of chip board) panels and put in page protectors and put in zippered notebooks. I don't fill up the note books as it can get very heavy. I have 4 zippered notebooks....Shapes, Images, Swirls and Letters and Holidays.

I also use ArtBin--have been pleased!

I use loose-leaf binders with page protectors. I get rolls of magnetic sheets (5 or more yards, non-adhesive) on ebay and cut them up to fit inside the page protectors. This is more economical than buying the sheets separately. I used to get large sheets at AC Moore before they closed the store in my neighborhood.

Solitaire, do the rolled magnetic sheet bow much after you have cut it? And are they thick or thin?

Last year I invested in the box system introduced by the makers of the Bind-it-All. It's a "Really Useful Box" with inserts for both magnetic dies and acrylic stamps. It's been handy, especially when traveling to crops, but at home it's a little cumbersome because I don't have a great place to store/access it.

I also use the magnetic vent covers to store matching dies in the plastic box that my Stampin' Up stamps come in. I cut down the magnetic cover and adhere it to the back of the box--dies and stamps both fit just fine. I also used some of the vent covers for easy access storage by adhering them to my desk---now my favorite dies are within arms reach and it makes it harder to forget about some of the other dies.

The rolled magnet sheets do bow after you cut them. You will want to lay them flat with a weight on top to straighten them out for a day or two. They are 30 mil. thick, thicker than self-adhesive sheets (which are only 20 mil. thick), and just right for holding steel dies.

Most of the rolls come in 24" widths and 5, 8, or 10 yards long. There is also available a roll in 12" width, which might be more manageable. Go to ebay and type "Magnetic sheets" to see what's available.

You really need a strong guillotine cutter to cut it apart. I happen to have a large (16") wooden guillotine cutter that does the job nicely. I only cut the number of sheets I need and put aside the rest of the roll for when I buy more dies. If there are any leftover magnet strips, they can be taped together to make up a new sheet. It works just as well as a whole sheet.

Just magnetic sheets in a ring binder. It's getting too heavy now. I need to stop buying...

I have the Art Bins, four of them so far. I love them! They are not big but you can get a lot in them. Because they are smaller than a notebook they are not as heavy. The bigger then container the heavier it will be loaded.
