UN-DO adhesive remover

Just learned about this product and I like it a lot! Apparently it has been around for quite some time....

Thought I would post about it. I am sure many of you have known about this, but others many not have...

What are your thoughts about it? I have only used it a few times and it helped remove a few things that I accidentally glued into the wrong space...I was using zip dry glue.

It definitely removes but for me the odor is too strong.
It doesn't stop me from using it, but I don't like too!
They took it off the market a few years ago and brought it back just recently.

I had inherited an album in which pictures had been SCOTCH TAPED!! They were very old (1940's) pictures and I was afraid to put any chemical on them, But WOW it did not harm my pictures at all. Glad you found it. I always keep a bottle on my craft table.

Use Bestine instead - same chemical, MUCH less expensive.

I used this way back, back, back when I first started scrapbooking...(like 20 years ago!)
It worked okay.
Didn't damage photos which was a big PLUS.
Didn't realize it still existed...

I remember how excited I was when I first used the product. The smell does not bother me as I don't find it lingers long or I just like weird smelling stuff!! I don't have to use it often but when I do it's great to have on hand. I have found it does not work well on papers that I glued using mono liquid glue!! Usually its the smaller things so I can easily cover over that area if I really really need to change what I put there.

I first used Un Do as a part of my spotting kit when I was a carpet & upholstery cleaner. I mostly used it for tape residue (don't use tape on your fabrics), toners and inks, and tar spots. I always followed up with triclorethlyne to rinse, so no residue remained.
Today, to remove tape, stickers, and glues, I first heat with a hair dryer (heat gun is too hot) and slowly peel at an angle. If it doesn't work I remove as much as I can, safely. Then I apply Un-Do and remove the rest, then I "rinse" with rubbing alcohol. I put alcohol on a rag or paper towel and wipe. It removes the odor and oiliness.

Okay - I have a big black spot on the carpet on in my office. I think it is oil from an old office chair. Going to get out the un do and try it. I think I still have some. Normally I always go outside to use it.

My suggestion is to call a professional carpet cleaner in your area, preferably one who has industry certifications.
It has been my experience after 40 years in the carpet cleaning business, homeowners and chemicals and spotted carpets don't mix well. Just remember, you don’t always get what you go after, but you do get what you wouldn’t have got if you hadn’t gone after what you didn’t get.
If you are still inclined, here is a plan that may work.
Apply your Un-Do to a rag, then address the carpet. Use very little, only what is needed. Do not rub, only blot. To rinse mix a drop of dishwashing soap to a quart of warm water. Moisten a towel with the soapy water, and blot away. Using a spray bottle of plain warm water rinse the area and blot with a towel.
If you have a wet and dry vacuum cleaner, you can spray and vac to remove most of the water. Then use your hair dryer (NOT YOUR HEAT GUN) and your fingers to dry the carpet.

Will try that. Have to find the undo first. I may be out!

We only have a few carpeted areas in our house - rest are hardwoods or tile. The bedroom carpet still looks like the day we put it in - so does the living room carpet.

However, the carpet here in the office - not so much. It looks like a herd of elephants play in here. We are on our computer, we eat in here most of the time - if we are awake and in the house, we are in this room. We have extra chairs and when company comes we hang out in here.

When this carpet goes, I'm putting in tile or something that the chairs will roll on and that will not stain. This room is used way too much for carpet.

Will look for the undo today and if I can't find it I'll order it. Want to try it on one spot in particular. That carpet in this room is already toast.

If you can't find Un Do, you could look for Goo Gone or Orange Magic, they are all about the same.

I thought Goo Gone was more oil based?

They are all oily, that's why the rinse is important. If not rinsed the removers leave a residue which will attract soils, leaving you with a different spot in the same spot.

That makes sense. Probably explains why, when I use a carpet cleaner I get another, much worse spot later.

Henri, I suggest you not get tile if you roll around the room... The kerchunk , kerchunk, kerchunk from the wheels hitting the grout lines drove me batty

Diana is right, a good linoleum or a Pergo type floor makes much more sense. And don't get the vinyl tiles as the seem to get broken and chip away on the corners and edges in traffic areas.

I am thinking Pergo would be best for rolling office chairs on. I had a good vinyl flooring in my kitchen once and the pattern split all over the place where we rolled our kitchen chairs.

Do your due diligence. Talk to a flooring expert. Maybe even some sort of hard rubber floor, or a poured floor.

Thanks Don - the article had some options I didn't know about - never heard of the engineered stuff. We have a great builder -right now he is working no one of the bathrooms (new shower).

I will have a conversation with him. He even built the house on our property for our son so we trust him. I just didn't know there were so many options and choices!
