Using alcohol inks

In my Ranger class we used glossy paper with the alcohol inks. We were told not to use the glossy paper for photos. I have been looking around but haven't found anything but glossy photo paper. Can anyone clue me in on where I can find this? Does it have a real name I should be using?

Have you seen matte photo paper? That would be the photo paper with the flat coating. Just curious, why did they say not to use glossy?

I printed pix. of my new grandson on glossy photo paper and placed them in a small scrapbook until I could get them onto a LO ----- the plastic sleeves of the scrapbook stuck to the pix. and left marks on them. Also, some of the pix developed small air bubbles and the pix is peeling off of the paper. I let the pix. set overnight before placing in the scrapbopk, so it wasn't because they were wet. I also printed some on matte finish paper and had no problems.

HP has a new type of photo paper that is quick drying and non sticky. Its advanced photo paper. If you go to their website, they are having a 2 for 1 paper sale. Shipping is free!!! I can't find a better deal locally even during a sale.

It's called Gloss paper and it's made by Ranger. Joann carries it online under their 12x12 paper.

Regular photo paper works just fine with alcohol inks, really. So does vellum, transparencies, and pretty much anything that's non-porous.

I'm so addicted to the alcohol inks that I did my mouse, keyboard, and monitor with them.

I getting there also. I have started playing around with them today. Hee-haw!!!

You do want to be careful with photo paper the alcohol inks can dissolve the emolshion (sp) and make a mess.

Glossy coated paper, velum, metal, metal tape, transparencies,or non porus.

I can not get the hang of alcohol inks, whatever i do with them looks horrible or wipe off. I've given up on them. I need to take a class next time Tim Holtz is in town.

Did you use the big bottle of clear liquid..the name escapes me but it dilutes down the intensity of the color. You put the liquid and whatever ink (two or three colors even) on the felt pad and dab away. Don't give up on the inks!!

You can use it on SO many different things! I even used it on a sheet of alluminum foil as a backdrop to a framed LO I did for my SIL. Came out flipping cool!

I just stumbled across this by accident. I know the paper you are talking about. If you go to goggle and type in alcohol ink + Ranger it will take you to Rangers web site. Go to products and and select paper it is called GLOSS PAPER. If you go the retail search in Rangers web site it help you find a store in your area that carries this paper. I have found a wonderful alternative and it is much less expensive and gives the same results.
I went to Hobby Lobby in the oil painting / art department and there is a wall of very large sheets of watercolor and other assorted papers. Look for the rack that says STRATHFORD. The Paper is called CHROMO Lux PEARLIZED PAPER it comes in a 19.5" X 26" size sheet. It's coated, glossy and bounus it is pearlized! The coating will not come off when using the alcohol inks and really looks amazing when using the mixatives, it stands up great to the embossing heat tool and gives an almost amazing holographic effect. It also stands up well to the archive ink that you use to stamp with on alcohol inks IE=(VERSAFINE ARCHIVAL PIGMENT) and the best deal of all for me was it is a fraction of the price of the Ranger gloss paper at a wooping $2.59 a sheet and if you have 40% off coupon it is about $1.69 for the sheet now thats a bargin! PLEASE NOTE: do not use STAZON ink it is a solvent based ink and will cause,running,smudging,bl eading and etc. due to the fact that alcohol ink is also a solvent and all you will end up with is a muddy mess in the end. I am so sorry for going on and on. I just wanted to share. I hope this was helpfull and hopefully will be a great alternative to the more expensive and hard to find GLOSS PAPER.

Heh, Beth, you hit on precisely why I love my Ancient Page permanent inks -- water based, not solvent based.

I use the advanced paper form HP with my HP printer with the archival ink. I use matte and glossy. Have had not problems with it. Glossy is easier to use if you want to someday scan the photos without any of the matte artifacts in it.

Ok, some neat ideas here - I did find the exact type of paper from Ranger(under the name Inkssentials which is why I had some trouble finding it). I was hoping to find other options, though, as I did not want to have to order it.

SU carries glossy paper and I have some of that on order. The only thing I've found locally is a pack of prefolded glossy paper cards from Inkssentials.
