I e-mailed the Sharpie company to ask if Sharpies are acid free. I really wanted to know since I used them in the past. This is the reply that I got:"The Sharpie® Fine Point Marker is acid free."Hope this helps those of you who were wondering.

They are acid free, but there are other chemicals in them that are bad for photos.

Over the years, black sharpies fade and get a brown halo, too. Don't know about other colors.

Slickwriters, made by American Crafts I believe, are acid free permanent markers that are for scrapbooking. You can buy them through Leaving Prints or at the Dollar Tree. They have different colors and I love them! Course, who knows over years but I imagine they would not. I've been wondering about Sharpies myself but never found anything about it.
